Stitching Night happy snaps!
A fun night was had by all the girls who popped into Mikes - and birds were the flavour of the day.. although Jess started a lovely elaborate Japanese-influenced bear embroidery.... and Rin did Hello Kitty.... and a couple of gals had a go at Aunty Cookie's designs too! Some of our stitchers were just starting out.. and others were quite experienced.. so everyone learned from each other, whilst sipping Lemon Cordial and Champagne... and lovely cakes from Little Bertha!
The hardest thing (apart from threading the needle in my opinion) was choosing the right colours from a pile of 100 embroidery flosses! It was fun to see everyone with their heads down concentrating - tongues planted firmly out the side of mouths...! We did have a few complaints of stitchers back... but perhaps this would be remedied by stitching on a nice couch in front of the tv... (with a bit of cheese and wine).
We used transfers taken from Sublime Stitching's lovely book.. and we also traced some designs onto tracing paper with a Clover iron-on transfer pencil.. and ironed them on too. I was completely happy as I could justify buying a brand new ironing board to replace my mini Ikea one... Yipppee!
A few lucky gals got door prizes...from Posie and Lark... and everyone left with hoops and calico and thread and needles and finished (or no-where-near-finished) pieces of embroidery! The last stitchers left at about midnight.. (with a few leaving earlier to feed hungry babies!)

The next stitching night is to be held at 8pm on Friday 13th July! And then also Sunday 29th July at 7pm! Bookings via paypal payment of $15 - this fee is just to cover materials! All stitchers get a discount at Mikes on the night - if they choose to shop and stitch!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you have more coming up, as I'd really love to come. I missed out this time as I decided it would be too difficult to have to drag my 5-month-old along, and her feeding times are still unpredictable at times.
Looking forward to being able to join in soon, and meeting other crafters (especially local ones) would be a blast.

why does it feel like ALL the fun, creative and crafty stuff happens in Melbourne? Is there anywhere in sydney that hosts events like this, or is there a blog I don't know about for crafty sydneysiders? Please let me know. I want stitchers back too! I'll move to Melbourne if I have to! x
