I've posted these picture of Tove Jansson because she is ace! She was from Helskini.. where so many good things come from - and was an amazing illustrator of beautiful children's books. I haven't read ANY of these.. but i want to.. have you got any? I'd love to know... my sister-in-law has been telling me about these for years, and I kept forgetting the title.. and now.. here they are and she's right.. I want them!
You can find more HOT kids illo tips over here... beware.. it's super good.

LOVE her! I have elderly copies of Finn Family Moomintroll and Comet in Moominland from when I was 8 or 9... And The Summer Book is lined up in my reading queue - I didn't realize she wrote adult books too until someone recommended this to me last year - it's a novel about a girl who spends summers with her artist grandmother on a little Finnish island, based on her own experiences.
What lovely work. My parents just visited their friend Tove (pronounced Torv to we Australians) in Norway this year. It's such a pretty name for such a clever lady. Love Posie
hahah i see you are getting the Moomins bug now.
i nvr knew them till i got on the whole international swapping thingy a year ago.
I recently had a brief stop over in Helsinki airport and they have a whole Moomin shop there filled with all sorts of lovely bits and pieces. It was so popular (the shop was packed) but I had never heard of Moomin until then. It's so cute isn't it?
i'm with you on the moomin/tove/book by its cover - lovefest. we somehow missed the moomins when my son was the right age, so i am reading them myself now. the summer book is soooo good, too!
Ah, Tove Jansson is the best!
"Who Will Comfort Toffle?" is my favourite book. Wonderful illustrations, great names and I got my copy at Metropolis Books in the city.
tove rocks! you can see the moomintroll tv series on youtube and it's very beautiful :) my son (2.5) is right into it ('moomins moomins' he cries ...)- also I heard there are moomintroll talking books narrated by hugh laurie!
I love the idea of the moomins talking books, I have only had time to read Comet in Moominland, a lovely gentle read.
My Favorite line from the book about moomin, mymble and little my, "hundred of the electic chaps who smell of burned-out thunderclaps" about the Hattifatteners so cool!
