Looks very interesting, I wish I could go there! I've recently developed an interest for typography and I wish I could learn more about it. Must've been a fun visit!
Oh Nina - you would have LOVED it. It was just amazing. They made us each a printing 'slug' with our own text on it - it's made from metal that was cast on the spot by this amazing machine.
The operator, Laurie, typed in our text and then the machine picks the letters and puts them into order and casts whatever words you choose. Then it mechanically returns them to their correct place in the letter 'magazine' It was really inspiring! I wish you could come too!
Oh wow, looks totally awesome I have been meaning to go there for about a year since i read about it. Now I really really have to go, I bet it had that great smell of ink and all! I am seriously obsessed about typography, it gives me such joy :)
I am so bummed that I missed it, hubby working all weekend and snotty nosed children joined at the hip don't add up to an enjoyable afternoon outing. Please do another outing soon.
The museum is really struggling for survival. I would STRONGLY encourage you to go - organise a group of four people - it will cost you $16 each for a 2 hour tour. And believe me, it is just amazing. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE YOUR EYES! Please visit the museum and support the important work they are doing in preserving the dying art of letterpress printing.
