So Pleased to Meet You! Introduction Time!

Just imagine, that this is a bit of a virtual tea-party. I've been getting lots of comments over the last week (thank you! but feel free to continue lurking if you are shy!) - so I thought it would be cute to start an introduction post!

Why dontcha leave a comment here with your name and a little bit about yourself. You don't have to have a blog to say hello here! We're not blog-sclusive here at Mikes, and I'd love to meet some people who don't even WANT to have a blog! Really. I love non-bloggers. Most people I know don't have a blog! Imagine it!

If you DO have a blog or website, be sure to include your URL - AS PART OF YOUR COMMENT, complete with the http and the www - so people can cut and paste it into their Google Reader or Bloglines Reader straight from my comments box. I will be adding everyone to mine! I'll get you started - but you should write your comment however YOU like!

Hello, my name is Pip. I have a blog called Meet Me at Mikes. I love all things vintage. I have my very own shop in Melbourne, stocking vintage, handmade and cute new things too. I love writing my blog. I love making friends. And i love crafting too! I'm writing a book. I co-founded a craft club called Brown Owls with Kootoyoo. I run 'Softies for Mirabel' and I co-edit Craft City Melbourne with Gemma Jones. I write for Mixtapezine too. And i have even more exciting crafty plans afoot! Pleased to meet you! Find my blog at http://www.meetmeatmikes.com/ Oh yes please, i'd love a biscuit!

Looking forward to meeting you all - and looking even more forward to you meeting each other! Cup of tea, slice of cake anyone?

  1. Hi, I'm Calli and I figured after the last post on blog manners I might de-lurk and leave a comment.

I'm an Ozzie living in Amsterdam with my husband, sewing machine, uni books and two vintage suitcases I found on the street last night.

I love to craft for the pure joy of it, the break from study that it provides, and most things end up with my family scattered over the world. I also love to cook. Some things I make are great. Some things aren't.

I write a blog with my 3 older sisters http://myfoursisters.blogspot.com/ We live in 4 different countries so this is how we laugh together, conspire amongst ourselves and inspire each other.

Thanks for writing such a great blog. It's a little injection of Australia into my expat life!

  2. Hi! I'm Bek, I'm a primary teacher-on-hiatus, and I'm trying to be committed to writing a blog. But am not quite there yet. I've been learning to sew, and I love to knit and screenprint and lust after projects I'm not up to yet. I also love circus and acrobalance, and books of all kinds, but particularly children's ones. I, too, love making friends, especially crafty ones...

    Bek's blog: http://adeedwithoutaname.wordpress.com

    cheers! Grand to meet you.

  3. Hi Calli! How flipping lucky to find 2 vintage suitcases! What will you put in them?! I'm dying to read your blog now - I can't imagine what a blog by FOUR sisters will bring! I reckon it's sure to be a treat! You're in my Google Reader now - so I'll be checking in often! Thanks for saying hello, Miss!

  4. Hi there, my name is Michelle. I write a blog called http://quiltingmick.blogspot.com. It's called Quiltingmick because I quilt, and that's the nickname my husband gave me (he's big on the nicknames).

Nowadays I crochet and craft more than quilt. I have just left my public service job of 18 years, and am having a little break while I start up a crafty business. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks it will be up at Etsy.

I love to collect Blythe dolls, vintage pyrex, old buttons, and brooches of all sorts. I also garden and bake and take photos. It's a busy life being quiltingmick!

Thanks for the cuppa, Pip. Any madeira cake in that tin?

  5. Oh hello Bex and Michelle - you two really must get to know one another! Would you like an iced vo-vo or do you prefer choc chip cookies? I'm looking forward to checking in on your blogs too! Thank you for visiting mine!

  6. Hi everyone, my name is Cathy. I have just recently become a crafty gal again after years of not feeling very creative at all. I love to collage, paint, knit and crochet at the moment. I aspire to sew and patchwork but am not very accomplished and need to find some time and patience to really give it a go. I have also recently become a keen op shopper and lover of vintage things which is a wonderful new hobby that I am enjoying immensely.

I have a blog http://bigcatsemporium.blogspot.com and I love it. Until a few months ago I didn't know what all this blogging fuss was about and now I can't get enough of it. The blogging community is such a great place. I have made a tonne of new friends, found people who share similar interests, learned a million new things, found inspiration and motivation, won some fab giveaways and had the pleasure of doing some swaps and giveaways myself.

I'll take a chocolate chip cookie please!

  7. Hi Pip and everyone! I'm Gina and I write a blog at http://www.goodgracie.com. I started sewing to make interesting clothes for my daughter and now I have two little girls so there is endless crafting potential. I collect vintage patterns and fabric and lately, worryingly, sewing machines. I used to be a book editor but now I want to be crafty full-time and I'm inspired to think this is possible by all the fantastic crafty blogger ladies out there. I love the Mike's blog and one day I'll visit the shop in person!

    Trifle, anyone?

  8. Hellooo!
I've been reading Mike's for a while, and I comment whenever I can!

I'm a graphic designer and general arty type person. I love crafting and love being inspired by crafty blogs and sites!

I wish I was down in Melbourne so I could stop by the shop regularly. The front windows always look amazing from the photos!!

My blog is www.definatalie.com and I post about art and design mostly, but occasionally when I bake some weird things I post them too :P

  10. Hello!
I'm Karine, a dedicated crafter/artist. I run a little accessories label called made by maude. It's been keeping me company for about four years now. I used to live in Melbourne and was part of a lovely retail space called Olive Grove Studios. That's really where I started my craft life. Now I am a long term visitor in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with my artist/computer-game programming partner and am just getting settled into life in a humid and sweaty place! You can find made by maude in some Melbourne shops or at http://madebymaude.blogspot.com or www.madebymaude.com
I'm pretty new to blogging and meet me at mikes, but am finding both of them (plus lots of other blogs and good things)a daily inspiration!

  11. Hello lovelies!! My Name Bec and I'm from Sydney. I love my blog www.honidesign.blogspot.com although I am fairly slack at posting recently!

I am completely into all things vintage (from victorian tea cups and figurines, to retro 60's things like orange tea canisters)and I collect waaaay too many things.

I especially love really kitsch things too like Blythe dolls.

I love most crafts like sewing, beading, embroidery, knitting, quilting, quilling....acutually I think I just love making things in general...

Music is my other passion. Give me a craft room with a CD player, my beloved CD collection and a cuppa tea (with a matching cup and saucer) and I'm in blissful heaven!!

...and I have a tendancy to waffle on as well ;)

  12. Hi my name is Sophie and I am 13.
I live in Sydney, Australia and I check mikes for a new post EVERY DAY.
I like sewing, photography, reading, drawing, designing and daydreaming. My three D’s.
I want to be a fashion designer when I grow up, so I spend my weekends making clothes for my old Barbie dolls and taking crazy pictures of them in my backyard.
I like making softies, especially sock monkeys, one of which will be sent to Mirabel. I sent two hearts for Mirabel before, one of which had its own special picture shown in one of your posts, which I was VERY proud of.
My room is very messy and has lots of photographs, handmade softies, material and buttons in it.
I don’t think I’m ready for a blog just yet. Someday perhaps.
I really enjoy reading mikes and all your blogging friend’s blogs. You give me lots of good ideas and inspiration.
    Thankyou,
    Sophie.

Oh and Bec's brought some choc chip cookies.. how good! Pass one to Cathy, they're one of her favourites! Oh! I'm so pleased you all came - i'm just about to open the tin of lamingtons!

  14. Oh my gosh! Look! It's Sophie! Hi Sophie darling! I am so pleased you are here! I have something special for you at this online morning tea.. do you know what it is? It's a vanilla cupcake with pink icing and litle sprinkles of hearts on it. Don't worry, you can eat the hearts! I am so proud that you read my blog. I hope i get to see you someday, perhaps if you ever visit with your Mum and Dad. I don't mind if they come. I think they're probably just as nice as you. Keep up the sewing, Sophie - because one day you'll be a supergood fashion designer and I'll put your picture all over my blog! Enjoy your cupcake!

  16. i've been lurking here for a while, all your blogging tips have been really useful!. my name is amy, and my blog is www.lucykatecrafts.blogspot.com and i live in the uk. before blogging, i did a degree in weaving & embroidery, and then worked for 12 years as a needlecraft designer for 'coats' (the brand name is anchor), and left 2 years ago when we relocated to a different part of the uk.

i enjoyed the job, but i enjoy what i'm doing now even more. it's all fitted in around the children but i have big plans for when my youngest starts school. i love sewing, making softies is my passion though. i like working on small items best, and find the feedback from blog and flickr comments really helpful when trying out a new pattern.

i also am addicted to all things sweet, chocolate, cakes, biscuits. the are far to many crumbs on my desk! so, i'll gladly join you in a cup of tea and a slice of cake : )

Hello, i'm Camilla I have a whole bunch of blogs- mainly you can find me here: http://madebymilla.blogspot.com where I talk about art, craft, growing things, curating and living by the seaside in England. I also just opened up Miss Stacey's Summer School and I would love if you signed up for summer with me (or winter as it's more likely to be for you) http://missstaceyssummerschool.blogspot.com I co-founded a little shop and gallery in Bristol, UK called 'here' and although i'm no longer directly involved with it I still feel fondly towards it. At the moment I am part way through my second Art degree where I am drawing big pictures and creating unicorns from vintage ceramics. I bring you marmite sandwiches and a nice pot of tea!

(and I am BLOWN AWAY by how much coolness is coming out from Australia at the moment)

  19. Hello there everyone! I'm Lara, from Melbourne, and have a blog at http://thornberry.wordpress.com. I started blogging as "show and tell" to keep me motivated with my sewing and crafting. I like to sew clothes for myself and for my daughters, and I'm addicted to crochet. I also like to sew bags; I've started patchwork; have been known to do a little embroidery, etc. I think that Nanna and the CWA somehow rubbed off on me!
And for morning tea - a cup of black decaf coffee please, and some jelly slice would be lovely!

  20. Hi, my name is Melanie - I'm a bit of a Mike's blog lurker, I confess. I'm a Brown Owl, and *love* meetings, they're the best.

I tend to do more thinking about crafting than actually doing it these days... my mojo is missing :( I did make a macrame bracelet yesterday though - perhaps it will show up on my blog sometime! - You can find me at http://www.sugarlemon.com/blog

  21. Hi, I'm Betty. I'm 36, mama to two boys aged one and three. I guess I have always been crafty - but had forgotten about it until I stumbled upon this blog about 12 months ago. Since then I have made bags, softies, purses, banners, clothes, fabric stencils...I am so inspired. I would love to be a Brown Owl - but I live in the Yarra Valley. Sigh.... Thankyou pip - and other bloggers - for sharing so much. You have been the rocket under my bum. (nice) Oh, and I LOVE to bake, so I brought a jam roll to share. It's still warm. BettyFox.

  22. Hi Pip, how are you?
Well...I'm Bianca and my blog is www.hollabee.com. I was born in the Netherlands and moved to Australia in 2005. After falling in love with Melbourne, finding a job and settling down the creative frustration crept in and that's how the sewing started. Since I'm more of a computer person than full-time sewer I got my patterns out of the archives and onto fabric...et voila! Next to designing I'm a program administrator and a co-founder of a soon to be revealed crafty company...stay tuned ;)

  23. wow, there's so many of you in here that I can't see for the baked goodie crumbs!!

I'm Sherrin, and live in Melbourne with my three boys, my man and a cat! I love to grow my vegies, sew and try new crafty things. I dream that one day I can get my head around photoshop and illustrator to get the fabric design ideas out of my head and onto fabric!!

My blog is http://starashanramblings.blogspot.com . I have been enjoying my blogging adventure, and am blown away by the talent that is out there in blogland.

Anyway, have ranted on more than I meant.... :o) (Here's some lemon slice! ;o) )

I live in suburbia with Mr CurlyPops. I'll have a go at any type of craft and I try to go op-shopping often. I also love cooking and baking and I'm always on the lookout for quick and simple recipes.
For morning tea, I would love a nice cup of strong coffee and then I'm joining in with Sherrin in a piece of lemon slice!

  25. Hello! I'm Carolyn & I've brought along a cinnamon tea cake made lovingly by my partner - he makes all sorts of deliciousness in the kitchen! It's still hot so enjoy! We both work together as graphic designers (http://www.delphinus.net.au) & started the blog Indie Art & Design about a year & a half ago - http://www.indie.com.au. I'll be sure to add all your lovely blogs to our links page soon! We also have our own label, Non-Fiction - http://www.non-fiction.com.au. We design cute t-shirts & greetings cards & have them made locally & ethically.

We live in Sydney in a little blue terrace with our part siamese stripey grey cat, Flynn. I really love cameras & nature photography, camping, biology (which I studied at uni, but now just read about in the popular science mags!), drawing, design & stitching paper designs together to make cards for special birthdays etc. I also love to dabble in printmaking, but have been waiting for such a long time for a little etching press to arrive at my local art store... When it does arrive, it will be my newest favourite thing! (Dare I admit that I also love playing World of Warcraft?)

I love reading the Mikes blog, but I must admit to being rather shy when I'm not wearing my "indie" hat, so I'm a bit of a lurker!

Lovely to meet you all - oh, and could someone please pass the Iced Vo-Vos? Ta!

  26. Rightyho! My name is Nanette, I live in Canberra, and no it is not just one big roundabout, thanks for asking. I like (and these are in no particular order): lamingtons - with a fresh cream interior, laughing from deep down in the solar plexus and people who can parallel park with precision and verve. I also enjoy a spot of crafting when the small people permit it. I would love to do this stuff more seriously but between you, me and the flagpole, I lack a bit of confidence. What if the dress I made falls apart? Or the little bits from the doll come off and get stuck in a small child's windpipe. I blog here:
    http://rummage.typepad.com/
but do you know I had never told a single one of my friends until a few weeks ago that I do this. I think this comes back to the confidence thing - I think I'd feel like a complete twat slipping a comment about my blog into conversation over lunch..Anyway, a friend completely busted me a little while ago when she left a slightly puzzled comment on my blog - Nan, is that you?
The truly great thing about blogging is that it gives me a creative outlet extending my world to include some awesome people. Like you Pip. I love the energy..now I just need to get me some of that confidence!
    xx

  27. Oh Pam, how polite of you to pass those cucumber sandwiches to Amy! How are you Amy dear, so happy you could come - and your dress is so pretty! Camilla petal, DO try one of Kirsty's cookies dunked in your tea... we REALLY don't mind if you dunk, honestly!

Oh Brown Owl Melanie is busy with Brown Owl Lara... they're talking all things owly betwixt their coffee sipping and cake dipping! Betty.. quick come over here and meet Bianca and Sherrin.. such lovely crafty girls, I know you'll get on famously!

Oh.. and lovely Cam's here! Hurrah! Another Brown Owl.. they seem to be everywhere those owls, don't they!? And Carolyn! A new blog friend I've been so pleased to meet! Come settle down on this rose-covered banquette and tell me all about things Indie! Lime Cordial anyone?

  28. Oh NAN! Your blog is gorgeous! I LOVE IT! Just keep doing it the way you have been doing it and all will be just poifect! I'm just so pleased that you bother to read mine!!! Sit next to me and Carolyn and have a jam scone... someone ate all the Lamingtons, alas.

  33. I just found your blog a few weeks ago and am absolutely hooked. I collected vintage kids' books and write a review a day about them at my blog Vintage Kids' Books My Kid Loves.... really anything that is a kids' book and can be considered classic and vintage from 1920 even up to 1990. At least three days a week I either drag my son to a thrift shop or a library sale or a used book shop. I personally love mid-century children's books but I will write about anything my kid finds cool (and even some he doesn't.) I am always combing the web for vintage sites and you guys are at the top of the list. Please keep up the great work!

  35. Hi there, i'm Jane and it's lovely to be invited to this tea party. I've brought a plate of melting moments. I like making things and looking at all the amazing craft out there in blogland. Years ago when my babes (15 + 11) were tiny i crafted away in hiding, carrying my supplies in a brown paper bag but now i craft in public! I began a blog belatedly because i'm a bit clunky with the technology but thanks to Pip and her inspirational blog and her inclusiveness and welcoming dare-devil-you can-do-it attiude i've plugged away at http://wwwthunder-rd.blogspot.com/ I like knowing that somewhere out there at any given time someone is lovingly picking up needle + thread or casting on or pondering over a piece of vintage fabric or picking up a pencil or tapping away at their blog. We are not alone. Yay!

I primarily embroider and sew, but I'm willing to try anything. I live with my husband, Nate, a big orange cat named Caesar, and a retired racing greyhound named Perseus. Among the many things I love are topstiching, sundresses, and kimono silk.

Because I have always been so inspired by readiing other people's craft blogs, I recently started bloggin my own crafty adventures (and a bit about my life, from time to time) over at http://onepearlbutton.blogspot.com. Stop by and say 'hello' sometime!

My name is Melissa, I live in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, and have been thinking more seriously lately of starting a blog myself. Not sure how to go about narrowing down a focus, which ironically (or not) is the story of my life. I'll stop lurking for a moment to say hello :) ...
I found this blog through www.whipup.net, which is a great link round up site- perfect for someone like me, who has one foot in blog-land, one foot out.
That said, I do have a blog, which is updated only now and then but serves as a creative process document... generally I'll post whatever it is that I'm working on, be it printmaking, painting, drawing, photography or writing.

    you can find it here:
    www.meganmonday.blogspot.com

I also have a fancy photo site here:
    www.meganmonday.com

    and a card company here:
    www.ramblingpath.com

    Thanks!

  49. Hi I'm Andi and I've been blogging since early 2005 when I got into Blythe. Blythe reawakened creativity that had been lying dormant since the birth of my two boys. I studied Art, Music and Video Production in my younger years and fell in love with computers as they became more accessible. I have always been a huge fan of op shopping; first to dress myself as a punk in the (early) 80s and now to retrieve all those forgotten relics of my childhood. I work in marketing/web applications by day and will have a go at most things by night. Visit me here http://www.superminx.com

Here Pip, please try my Gugelhopf.

  50. Hi everybody~
Looks like the tea's getting cold. Can somebody warm up the pot for me? I'll take decaf if you have any, I'm expecting. :)
I'm Jessica and I blog over at littleshika, about quilts mostly. I live in southeastern Massachusetts, about an hour from Boston, and man is it hot today! I quilt year-round, no matter how hot it gets though, and my favorite thing is to sit out on my deck in the early morning or late afternoon when it's cool and sew outside. I'd love to have you all over to stitch with me sometime, virtually or irl, but I only have 2 chairs out there..
At the moment I really love English paper piecing, fabric scraps & using up my stash. My husband and I are in the process of downsizing and simplifying our life a bit in order to enjoy life more. It's a challenge though because we're used to lots of convenient and expensive things (like the luxury of two cars and two incomes), but we're ready for the change.
I'm happy to meet all of you and can't wait to stop by all your blogs. Thanks for the tea Pip!

  51. Hi, I feel slightly like I am at an AA meeting, delurking can feel a little that way I guess.

Hi, I am Edwina, I am a blogger. I am addicted to craft blogs, I read them everyday. I have my own at http://littlesnoring.blogspot.com
but I am much more absorbed reading other peoples blogs than updating my own.
I live in Hobart, Tasmania in a ramshackle house with a big garden. I have three gorgeous little boys who like mud, climbing trees and playing lego. I really love to make things and I get a kick out of sewing, needle felting and screenprinting. I used to knit when I was a kid, but I am too scared to start again, because I fear I will become addicted and have to start stockpiling wool as well as fabric. I do feel the knitting bug is lurking around me, so I might have to give it another try.

Pip, I am amazed at your blogging mojo and really enjoying opening bloglines to read your many posts, it is always such interesting content and lots of fun.

Thanks, I feel better already, it is so nice to share!

  52. I'm more of a coffee drinker myself, but I wouldn't say no to a hot cup of tea with a cookie or two.
My name is Kim and I blog over at http://www.smartypants-luckylisp.blogspot.comI started blogging and surfing crafty blogs just about a year ago (my blog-i-versary is next month). I've been totally amazed at what I've found in the crafty blogging world and it has truly inspired me to do more crafts and writing.
I live in Oregon (United States), where it seems that summer will never appear this year.
My hubby and I are decorating and renovating our newly purchased condo (slowly, but surely) where we live with our two little kitty cats.
I'm so happy to meet you all! What a wonderful bunch!

  53. Hi Everyone! I'm Sharon and I live slap-bang in the middle of the U.K! Once upon a time I was a patterncutter working in London and then we moved here, where I was lucky enough to meet a girl who showed me how to screen print and now I just can't stop!!So now I'm a happy blogger, sewing to my hearts content and I've just opened an Etsy shop selling my wares, which I'm so excited about!
I love making stuff from reclaimed and previously loved fabrics, linens and denim whatever takes my fancy!
Stop by and say Hi to me at:
    https://www.irisandlily.blogspot.com
    and
    https://www.irisandlilyhandmade.etsy.com
And oh yes! I'd love a coffee, black with two sugars please. I'm trying to stick to a balanced diet, could I have a cake for each hand please!;)

  54. Oh Jane! You brought Melting Moments! I love those! They sound like something from The Faraway Tree, don’t they?! We haven’t chatted in a while, so I’m super pleased to see you!

Alli – you’re an archaelogist! Wow, that’s uber cool. Rocks and dirt and history. That’s pretty crafty, I reckon. It’s dig-craft. Lovely to see you – have some jam with that scone and take one home for Nate.

Sarah, you must feel so lucky to be working somewhere you love! It’s a luxury only some of us get to experience (me too!). Would you rather Portugese Custard Tart? I’ve just made a fresh pot of tea too!

Oh Jesska! Great, you’re here! I made the Florentine’s using Stephanie Alexander’s recipe. I hope I didn’t put too much sugar in them. What do you think?

Karen, of course there is pink lemonade. Would you like a pink stripey paper straw too? I’m most excited to hear about your varied crafty pursuits. I’m a bit like that – lots of things on the go at once – and lots of favourite crafty things to do.

Hi Alexis! I’m turning 40 next year – so I can totally relate to the whole turning-40-resolution-making-moments you have been having. How wonderful to be in New York! You will love Melbourne, when you DO come, and I will take you out for dinner and drinks… and perhaps a movie too!

Hello Marla! Someone’s just popped these tiny lemon tarts in front of me – would you like one? I DO believe that’s real vanilla in the cream! I would love to visit Toronto some day, but perhaps I’ll just have to make do with visiting your blog for now (it’s probably JUST as nice!)

Hi lovely Kerry-whose-bf-is-an-animator! I’m glad you popped in! I’ve seen you about a bit, I do believe! One lump or two?

Oh Miss Cameo – just come over – I’ll make up the guest room for you! I just need to move out all those suitcases of vintage fabric and we’ll be all set! Can I offer you a slice of cherry pie?

Katie – do you mind passing Sarah another Portugese Tart? Thank you! Wow – you’ve come a long way to visit us – was it warm out where you are? Or all crisp mountain air? You must try this cherry pie!

Melissa and Ulla! You’ve arrived together! Were you following the scent of Ulla’s moca cake, Melissa?! Oooh, it smells divine! I’m looking forward to reading your blog someday Melissa, and whatever you write will be just perfect, after all, it’s your diary, isn’t it?! Ulla! Hurrah! I was SO hoping you would come! Have a peep at this softie I’m making! Perhaps the eyes are a little close together?

Ginevra! Another lovely Sydney girl! How lucky to be going to Tokyo! Will the whole family be going? I’m looking forward to reading your blog and following your adverntures!

Hello Megan! Oh I adore WHIP UP! I didn’t realise that it started in Australia – it’s so very all encompassing and global, isn’t it! You are a busy bee with all those sites! I can’t wait to have a look at them!

Superminx and her Gugelhopf! Yay! It is very busy at this tea-party, but never too busy for more crafty girls! I too am in LOVE with the 80s and my computer, so you’re not alone! Ginevra just made a fresh pot of coffee, would you like some… or some tea perhaps?

Jess – the tea’s here! The one with the owl tea-cosy is fresh and hot! What are you up to Miss.. no don’t tell me yet – try a meringue! They’re melt in the mouth! How cute are those little silver balls on the top of them – don’t crack your tooth on one though!

Edwina! A Tassie gal just like me! You don’t have to delurk – I’ll know you’re there – so feel free to tip toe about whenever you like! I’m so happy you like my rather busy blog! I love to write it – and I want to be sure I can deliver little happy moments to those that bother to visit! We need more happy moments, don’t we?!

Kim – the coffee machine is ON! What’s your poison? Latte, espresso – I’m your gal! Perhaps a sliver of panforte or a pistachio biscotti too? What WOULD we do without blogs to light our way through the day?! It really is like having a little ray of sunshine at your fingertips – esp if you are waiting for SUMMER to actually raise it’s glowing head!

Sharon-crazy-printing-girl! I like your ‘tude to eating cake – how about orange and poppyseed in the left hand and some apple tea-cake in the right. I’ll make you a real coffee on the machine, darling girl. How would you like it? Strong, weak – surely not low-fat milk? Looking very forward to finding out more about your crafty endeavours!

  55. My nanna had this crockery set, thanks for showing it, it gave me warm memories of her kitchen. She was very stylish and her whole house was decorated in blue and green tones. She always had the classical radio playing in her kitchen and a copper coffee pot on the hot plate. mmm smelt good. She has since moved into a little flat with only a few remnants of those stylish days : ( Anyway, enough about her...I should introduce myself before my family. I'm Esther, I live in a barn that people are fond of weeing in the garden of. True story, unfortunately. I survive on cups of tea and toast and craft in the little itty bitty pockets of time in between sips. I once visited Mikes on a shopping trip to Melbs to celebrate my 30th birthday. Hope I can visit again some day soon.

  56. Hi everyone, my name is cindy and I brought lamingtons - pink and brown. I have 2 young children and a boring full time job so I am trying to function on as little sleep as possible and sew/craft at night otherwise it can be a bit all consuming. We have just moved to Melbourne and don't know many people so I am please to meet you all. I am contemplating starting up a blog with Pip's inspiration once I get on top of my never ending list of jobs. Milk with 2 thanks.

  57. Esther you barn dwelling crafty gal! Why DO boys think they can wee everywhere? Marking their territory, I expect! Your nanna sounds so fantastic. If you ever want to track this china down, it's by a maker called Figgjo and the design is by Turi. I'm really glad you came to have some lovely girly tea-time!

Hey Cindi - have a chocolate crackle - your life sounds super busy! I can relate to that no-sleep-ness, but luckily I'm out of that phase now - it's just Cam's snoring that keeps me awake these days. And thinking of stuff I want to do. That keeps me awake too! I'm so happy you came!

  58. Well, goodness, sorry I'm a tad late. I got on the wrong tram - can you believe? Us New South Welshmen aren't that good at them. There's some marshmallows in the bag, grab them and open them, they were left over from last night's Girl Guide meeting and I thought I'd better bring them before the kids at home got into them. There's three there and one who pops in from time to time. Sweet tooths all of them, can't keep treats in the cupboard. They sneak them while I'm at work. Full time, I know, tough gig writing about bands and music and art all day. Last time I popped in I tried on some glorious orange shoes. That was in March. Are they still here? Oh sure, I can help with pouring that tea. Three times clockwise, three times anti-clockwise and pour. Hand me your cup. Anyone else? Oh opps, of course. I'm Kate. Don't mind me I talk to much anyway ... http://www.katiecrackernuts.blogspot.com/

  59. Hello - most of my friends call me Ness, so I shall leave a note here for friends :)

During the day I am co-owner of Retro Age Vintage Fabrics and during the night I am crafter with my gocco (soon to start selling prints - so excited!) and Mum to two boys and wife to a lovely Kiwi, now Aussie citizen. I blog at http://vintagefabrics.blogspot.com/ and our website is at www.vintagefabrics.com.au. I love blogging (sometimes!) as it gives me something sane to do during the day...rather than staring at vintage fabrics that should be on the website but aren't or wondering how on earth I am to change the fifth nappy within an hour :)

    Have a lovely day!

  60. Wow, what a fantastic turnout!

I'm Jess from Melbourne and I started sewing last year when I got a reallllllly boring job and stumbled across an article about Wardrobe Refashion in the newspaper - it has changed my life, I get into work early and check about 10 craft/fashion blogs and boy, you dedicated and reliable bloggers are the best!

I'm about to go overseas and what better way to keep everyone informed than with a blog of my very own? Me and my lovely Jeremy's adventures are at http://www.jessandjezz.blogspot.com/ and we would very much like to meet you! (thanks for the tips these last few weeks they have been very timely!)

Thanks Pip for such an amazing blog, it instantly makes me feel a warm glow when you pop up in my inbox.

    Yay for Tea Parties!

  61. Hi Pip, I am an expat aussie living in Singapore and started sewing 2 years ago as a way of meeting other like minded friends. I never realised what a world would open to me and how much I enjoy being creative. I have just started my own blog http://handmaiden.typepad.com tracking my craft adventures in Singapore. If I come for a cup of tea I like Jasmine or Orange Pekoe....so put the kettle on.

  62. Hi Pip! Hi Everyone!
My name is Magda (aka Cherryskin), and I am a 33yo mother of two lil' girls living and blogging in Melbourne.
I love sewing (clothes and softies), drawing, dabble in knitting and crochet, carve my own rubber stamps from time to time, and love the inspiration and goodwill to be found on the interweb. I am inspired lately by the arty-design-end of things (crafts tied firmly in of course): papercrafts, art, photography, interiors, etc. And I can't believe the wonder that is Etsy.
I am a pretty casual blogger -- bit of this, bit of that, every now and then, which suits me.
One day I would love to come along to a Brown Owls night to meet my fellow lovely Melbournite crafting wonders (when I can break free from the nightly dinner-bathtime-bedtime madness).
    My blog is here: http://www.cherryskin.blogspot.com
    Thanks, Pip! Bye!

  63. Hello, my name is Beth and I live in Melbourne. I'm a postgraduate student, but all that Science gets a bit dry so I love to sew, cook, bake and potter about in my garden to keep me fresh. I love anything cute and quirky (often Japanese toys and fabrics fit the bill) and I always find myself loitering about the children's section of stores because kids always have the coolest things. My blog is http://goatinacoat.blogspot.com/. I like goats: they're stubborn, like the outdoors, and eat anything... much like me, really. I have a thing for peppermint tea chocolate teddy bear biscuits... and I especially love to share them! Dig in! Lovely to meet you all - what a wonderful idea this is!

I live in Torquay, Vicco and recieve your blog updates everyday at work - they really make time go faster! I love to sew and really appreciate people who take the time to do crafty things that put unique-ness into the world instead of funding the homogenised mass production offered in chain stores. I have just started a blog about a month and a half ago. It is centered around fashion mainly.

I'm Nathalie, sometimes known as pikabean or Natch, and have a blog called The Natchbox (http://www.natchbox.blogspot.com). It's sadly been rather inactive recently due to my incredibly busy schedule up at school (I am a Theater major at Cornell University and just finished up my freshman year). However, I am looking forward to a craft and blog filled summer (spent in my first home, New York City) which so far has included more of me reading lots of blogs rather than writing in my own... but I'm hoping to do a lot more of both! ;)

  68. My name is Katy, and I recently resumed blogging again, as I have developed an interest in sewing in addition to my knitting and crochet hobbies. I also dabble in calligraphy and paper arts. I really enjoy what you Melbournians are doing, especially those wonderful fabric designers and check these (and others) blogs almost every day.

Me personally, I love to sew and garden with some scuba diving on the side (my husband's fault!). Unfortunately the garden is getting less attention as the sewing room constantly calls to me - dressmaking, bags, quilts and trying to get better at softies.

Oh and mine's an Earl Grey, but can I bring my teapot as I can't drink tea bag tea. It's a big teapot so there's plenty to go round, along with a plate of chocolate coated teddy bears! :o)

In reality I do like Pina coladas and many other cocktails so as the sun is over the yard arm make mine something a bit stronger (its been a rubbish day at work). I also like saying "I could make that" but never getting round to it, dreaming of having a dog of my own, and ignoring my blog. http://pootlesquest.wordpress.com/

Pip this was the greatest idea ever! Its so good to see who else lurks on here!

  100. (sorry for the screw up - something is happening to the hyperlink so I'll take it out)

Coming in a bit late here Pip, but it's been sooo hot in Annapolis (US). I'll take any of the tea that's gone cold in fact. No ice needed tho.

I'm Maureen, and I am a Nannie which comes from being the mother to 3 adults (40, 36, 35) and yes it keeps me immature or young, depending on how you look at my blog...http://cookingmylife.blogspot.com/.

What do I like to do here, now that I'm retired and not reading blogs at work??? Still read blogs (!), take pictures, cook, and do a lot of travel with my husband of 7 yrs. Oh I hear Sebastian wailing (our 15 yr old Lilacpoint Siamese). He must want a rubdown to 'get the bodily juices flowing. Let me put him on my lap and do take the dried cherry scones before he gets cat hair on them.

btw, I like blogging because when people ask me if I'm writing in retirement, I can say yes. ;-) I hope I'm the oldest here...I like being the 'est' something!

  115. Hi everyone!

I'm a crafty mama of 2 living my dreams in Austin, Texas. Although I have dabbled in probably every craft ever created, I'm lately obsessed with sewing (quilts, clothes, bags). Oh, and knitting (scarves, sweaters, bags). Umm ... crochet, too (I accidentally got sucked into a ripple-stitch afghan that I fear will never end).

I also love reading and would appreciate any must-read suggestions. I'm enjoying the Maggie Sefton knitting mystery books, and I just devoured Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day. Seems that I'm in a tea-and-cake, cozy story sort of place.

Thanks for hosting this party! And yes, a cup of tea for me, please.

    http://www.sweetcheese.wordpress.com

Oh, if only we could all meet in person and have a real tea party! (And can you believe, I'm almost 27 and I've never been to a tea party?! Something must be done.)
I've been gathering inspiration from the millions of crafty, artistic people on the internet for a few years and finally took the plunge to start my own blog. It is still forming, but I've been writing about random interesting things, the beauty of the mundane, traveling, crafting, sewing, you name it. I'm a generally creative person and I am hoping to get going with my Etsy shop in the coming weeks. Now I just need more motivation and I know I can find it from all the lovely people I am meeting via blogs.
Thank you, Pip and have a beautiful day.

  122. Hi Pip, Sorry I am a tad late but my jam drop bikkies burnt and I had to make another batch!

My name is Alyssa and I have a little store in Brisbane called Lyssy May where I make and sell my own handbags and other crafty bits and invite others to put their wonderful creations in my store - I really love sharing my space with the wonderfully talented 'suppliers turned friends' who stop in for a cuppa when they bring in their latest creations. My true love is creative stitching and sadly I don't get enough time to indulge this these days so blogs like this help to feed my addiction!

Congratulations Pip on building not only a brilliant store concept but also a whole crafty community around it.

So pleased to find there are still people here for tea - I've bought neenish tarts, my all time favourite, to share. My name is Philippa. I'm from New Zealand and have a relatively new blog http://sustainingstitches.blogspot.com - I'd love to see you there.

I've been stitching for ever but mostly now quilt. I love vintage embriodery, which my grandfather was a master at, so lots of these on my blog too. I'm planning to visit Melboune later in the year and am looking forward to visiting Mikes. Thanks for the inspirations.

  125. Jenaveve here, room for one more? I brought decaf green tea... oh, and some mars bar slice for the chocaholics!

I write a little blog called August Street, which originally started as an online sewing diary (of the garment variety) but has since evolved into a creative space for everything else going on - I write, read, cook (mostly 'healthy' stuff now), sew, muse over music and films, keep fit and healthy, obsess over stuff and love capturing the moment... whatever it happens to be.

By day I'm a website admin - perfect excuse for being online all day so I get to read a few blogs while I'm at it.

I'm in love with crafty blogs for all the fabulous talent out there, and food blogs for all the cooking inspiration.

I love getting my daily feed from Mike's (I don't know how you have time to be so good at all this, but thank you) and love roaming around to see what inspiration is out there. Come by and say hi.

  129. I guess I'm a bit late coming to the party now, but here goes anyway:

I'm Emma and I have just come back from a bit of a blogging break and have started a new blog over on Typepad (yes I've decided to fork out some cash for the privelidge...) http://mejika.typepad.com. It's looking a bit lonely and empty at the moment, and I'm not quite sure about all that pink but I hope once it gets going and I settle in it will be a nicer place to stop by.

I'm still learning to craft, but I like screenprinting, sewing, softies, amigurumi and of course Japanese craftiness! And I used to love visiting Mikes on my trips to Bridge Rd but I must admit I haven't been to the new store yet...

  130. I'll join you Emma and we can party on even if everyone else has gone home!

I'm Michelle and I'm very new to blogging, although I've been reading them for a while.

I love to sew and can knit (although I tend to lose interest when it comes to joining all the pieces together!), and have just joined the Brown Owls as a Faraway member.

    Nice to meet you all!
