Okay - I'm a little early.. but I'm not one to hang about! Follow this link to find these eleven wonderful handmade softies for auction on eBay! These are the first of six rounds of auctions! The auctions run for seven days - and all funds (ex listing fees) will go to The Mirabel Foundation. There's a link on the top right hand side of this very blog - which will take you straight to eBay so you can check in whenever you like!
If your softie is featured in Round One - tell us a bit about yourself in the comments below! And Mikes thanks you a heap! As does The Mirabel Foundation! edit - I'd love it if you could also email me a little bit about why you made a toy - so I can put it onto the eBay listing of the softie that you made - just to let everyone know what YOU are all about!
I'd like to remind you about the work of the Mirabel Foundation - and encourage you to take part in our fundraiser for a super important Foundation.
The Mirabel Foundation was established in 1998 to assist children who have been orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use and are now in the care of extended family (kinship care). Mirabel believes that every child deserves a childhood and its mission is to break the destructive cycle of addiction.
Follow this link to read some harrowing stories which detail some kids first hand experiences of living with a drug using parent. It's sad to note that these stories are just the tip of the iceberg. They are heartbreaking and must be read. My feeling is if any child is in difficulty, then we are responsible for ensuring their happiness and safety. It does take a village to raise a child. It's important not to close our eyes to this issue. Open 'em up wide, I say. And tell someone else about it too.
The 'Softies for Mirabel' auctions will run over the next six weeks - and we have some amazing softies made by some crafters you don't know, and some crafters you do (watch out for toys by Loobylu, Two Little Banshees, Ric-Rac and One Red Robin to name only a few!). Starting price on all auctions is $25AUD. We will ship toys to any corner of the globe!
If you are a softie maker - it's definately not too late to join our cause and send a toy - we'll be accepting toys for the auction for the next four weeks (we thought it best to extend the deadline!) - and toys that you would like to be given to the Mirabel kids can be sent right up until mid-December. If you are a high profile softie maker or crafter we'd love your work to auction - as the more funds we can raise the better! I know life is so busy - but even the simplest softies are beautiful - and we'd love yours! Please support The Mirabel Foundation and help some great kids!
See you on eBay!
xx Mikes

If only every village had you in it Pip - then all the kids would be happy (even if you didn't give them the stickytape).
I am totally in awe of you ! and I have already been bidding !
Yah Pip! You've done such a wonderful job organising such a fantastic auction...I've been bidding too...better make sure I outbid Jodie...he he he!
Coming over via Jodie to hug you for your fantastic work. Good for you.
Hooray for Mikes - lovely people with big hearts. Thanks for choosing my little cloud...I'm sure he's pretty proud of himself.
Pip you are amazing! Thanks for your hard work. I was so excited to see my platypus up there and it has a bid already!
I really should get my act together and make a softie, especially now that you've extended the cut off date! I really suck at making softies, I don't even own a sewing machine! But I'm sure I can whip something up, I'll try at least!
I'm so thrilled to be a part of this auction, Pip (I created Henrietta the Owl)! What a wonderful job you've done putting it all together. Donating a softie to raise funds for children just seemed like the least I could do.
Hi,
that's my pink bunny ( or yours if you bid on it). I'm a proud mother of two young children and work with 0-2 year olds in a long day care centre so was glad to be involved in such a great cause. I've been crafting for a long, long time but am new to softies and have recently ventured into blogging. Pink Bunny was a fave with my daughter and I hope you guys like her too! Your an inspiration Pip, good job.
Hi Pip, well done to you and everyone at "Meet me at Mikes". I am the creator of the trio of Matryoshka dolls. And It was a thrill to see them in round one and tthat they have a bid already - woo hoo! fingers crossed every auction goes really well. I'm off to put a bid on Kate's platypus now....Kathryn.
Hello Pip! Evie here, maker of 'pretty pirate' and what a pleasure it was to make this little guy! Im an amateur crafter with hands that wont stay still so when this opportunity came along I just had to join in. Such a wonderful cause. Such a fun project. And, such an amazing women to bring all these little softies together. Thanks for the opportunity to take part. Evie x
Hi Pip,
I made the lion (his name is Luca). I'm very excited to be in the first round of auctions - although I'm a little nervous. I hope other people like him too. I have to make one each for my son and daughter because they loved him so much.
I'm a fashion accessories designer so I was happy to take part and make something fun. I started off making a big turtle but it didn't turn out so well so I made this little guy.
I think this is a fabulous idea and a great cause. Everyone can take part and be creative and the kids benefit - everyone wins!
I can't work out where to send my softies to? thanks pip;)
Oh Pip these look all look so beautiful!! I really love the pretty pirate and the rain-cloud!
xx
Ohhh I'm so excited that the bidding has already started!
I made the big, friendly, furry tarantula named Terry. I wanted to make a softie for boys, because there are so many softies for girls out there and the boys always get left out. Boys need furry friends too, and what's better than a big hairy spider?
You're doing such an ace job, Pip. Amazing.
