An Awesome Book...

Hey look! I ordered this book on Wednesday of last week - and it crossed the globe to Mike's and arrived today. MONDAY! Yikes! That's quicker then posting something to Balwyn, I swear! It's called 'An Awesome Book' - and rightly so. Written and illustrated by the very awesome Dallas Clayton, it's a colourful, fantastically illustrated, happy times delight of a book! Chock full of positive, sweet sentiment, it's an antidote to pessimism, lack-lustre-ness (is that a word?!), commercialism and the current doom and gloom that's being bandied about.

I spoke with Dallas about Dallas and other stuff too. Here's what he said:

Tell me five important things?
  1. I live in Los Angeles.
  2. I write for a living.
  3. I have a lot of friends.
  4. I love my son.
  5. This is my first book.

(Gee. I like LA, writing, friends, sons and first books too. We're totally, extremely similar, Dallas and I.) Dallas said some other stuff to:

Why did you want to do this book?
I wrote this book for my son, but also because I felt like so much of kids culture these days was being sapped up by clothes and shoes and designer whatnot, but that the content, the good content was still in books from the 70's. Seemed off balance I guess.

Did you self publish?
Yes, I self-published, because that is all I know. That is the world I come from, making things that you like and then sharing them with people. No fooling around or waiting to get things approved. Just seems to make sense. But I could be wrong...

Do you think the world is made up of the awesome and the potentially awesome waiting to be awakened to their own awesomeness?
Yes, the long and short of it is that I feel there are people who could use a little nudge away from things that aren't going to help them, and toward things that could make their lives much more rewarding. Thus it is written as much for adults as it is for kids.

Thank you Dallas for chatting with Mike's!

You TOTALLY should buy this book. It is just lovely. I am going to read it every second day. I am reading Bob Dylan's Forever Young on the OTHER day. I like to keep positive, ya know?

xx Pip

  2. Ooh the closing line pretty much sums it up. Anyone that says, 'I love you' at the close can have my business any day.
