You know I love to make stuff that it's easy to buy, right? You know I get huge pleasure from spending hours, sometimes even days or weeks making things that I could buy at the grocery store in 3 minutes flat? You know that right? That's just me. You know that, don't you?!
Well then you'll know how excited I was to find this very excellent blog! Check out their fantastic, amazing, super good tutorial! Big ups to Bethany Actually and her amazingly crafty cookery - How To Make Your Own Vanilla Extract.
Ms Bethany Actually wrote a really cool how-to. It has gorgeous photos. Be sure to keep an eye out for the super-good kid's party pics too - esp the lollies and the green bunting. Awesome!
xx Pip
Thanks for the lovely compliments and the link! :-) Now if you'll excuse me, I think I need to go poke around your site...
ReplyDeleteI made this a couple of years ago but with brandy instead of vodka. It was just getting to the right flavour (it took a few months), when one evening my husband tipped the lot down the sink! I had left it there after cooking and he didn't realise that it contained the most precious liquid in my world! I haven't had the heart to make it since. It was delicious though!
ReplyDeletelooks great but all my energy seems to be going into bottling & jam making .
ReplyDeletethen again I should start some considering it will take a while.
thanks for the link
the book looks exciting
I have to share this with you - January of '08 I decide to make my own vanilla to give as gifts for the holiday season of '08. I used rum, and had vanilla beans and the beginnings of some good vanilla when I went out of town for the month of July. While I was gone, my husband thought it was "vanilla flavoured rum" and he and his friends finished off the bottle. When I came back in August I was so frustrated - so here we go again for '09.
ReplyDeletewhat a fabulous idea - thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou are a gem! I'm currently making ginger beer from your recipe with my kids. Cannot WAIT to taste it.
ReplyDeleteApologies if you already know this, but if you are keen on replicating stuff you can buy at Coles/Safeway, if you are a Simple Savings website subscriber you can access the thread "Trying to Starve Woolworths".
