I've been reading the same book that Claire has been reading. (Because I DO like Claire.) It's called 'Bird by Bird' by Anne Lamott and it's about writing. Stuffing up writing, actually. But also about practising and getting it right. It's about jumping in and scribbling things down, and about how important it is to just let some words out sometimes. Some of which might actually express what you mean! If you are lucky!
I really like writing. And I like pictures too. I need to practise. And I thought it might be nice to share a little bit more of me (in words and pictures) on my blog. So here is what I am going to do. I'm going to think of a theme each week to write a little piece about. (You can join me, if you would like.)
The first theme is - 'School Lunches'.
(In honour of Ms Lamott.) Do with it what you will. In words - or pictures - or both. I'm going to write mine tomorrow, but you start when you like!

Things you need to know :
You don't have to write beautifully or perfectly.
You don't have to write a lot.
Also, you don't need to be an amazing photographer.
But rather, just post something about the theme. Words or pictures. Or both. Just have a go. Simple.
Perhaps you might post some distant memories, or a story you made up, or an old photo, maybe tell us something you once read about the theme, write in rhyme, detail a snatch of overheard conversation, you might recount an anecdote... it could be anything really.
Just some words. Or some pictures. Or both.
Like I said, nothing fancy.
Just do it your way.
Just for fun.

I'm thinking I might have a crack at this!
This sounds right up my alley. Don deLillo eat your heart out.
Terrific idea Pip. I love writing too!
Not so much with the words & constantly feel as if I have none but I've had a crack.
So many school lunches.
Packed tightly into school bags
So many yummy goodies,
Some lovely fruit, not too squishy or left on the bottoms of bags.
Something cool to drink, and something to chomp on to fill up little tummy's.
So many school lunches.

My lunch box used to contain Baked bean , egg & lettuce, peanut butter and honey,
Or Curried egg sandwiches,

School lunch favorites
:)
I'll have a go - I'm still slightly traumatised by my soda bread and banana chip lunches: everyone else had Tiny Teddies and Le Snaks. Ah well, I thank my mother now!
great idea
I am wondering the header what book is that from .It stirs a memory from my childhood ?
I am intrigued and perplexed.Please help !
After giving up my own blog to focus on the one for my baby, this is the perfect way to get back at it. Thanks!
Can never resist the opportunity to talk about food!
thank you. it will be fun to read all of these. (I found you through Ali's blog)
:)
I was allowed to buy my lunch from the 'tuck shop' once a week at the most. I always ordred a 'Pizza Bun' (half a white hamburger bun with Watties tinned spaghetti and a bit of cheese on top - grilled and all melty). My friends and I delighted in shocking the Tuck Shop ladies into thinking we were 'evil children' and putting 'Pizza Bum' on our order forms instead! Oh the innocence!
However, when my Mum packed my lunch on all the other days of the week, she ALWAYS put in a little "I love you" note with a silly little picture in my luchbox. Usually of a little cat, or hearts or something funny and silly. Despite the embarrasment, I secretly loved it. Now my Mum is no longer alive, I really wish I'd kept all those notes..... xxx
Ooh, this sounds fun. Might just give it a whirl.
love your idea. am keen to jump on your creative writing bandwagon. will get cracking now, and post links back to your site just in case others want to join your revolution.
THANKS!
what a great challenge! I'm in!
Thanks for the great idea, i'm playing along!
I'm starting this a bit late, and am going to swipe your theme for this week. (hope you don't mind) It's just that lots and lots of things popped up in my little head when I read "school lunches"!
This is an excellent idea! Thanks!
Great idea! Now off to read all about lunches (should be even better as I haven't had my breakfast ... I'm starving).
i have oodles of school papers to write so what's one more assignment? maybe this will help get me going. fun stuff, haven't looked at the book in years!
Fantastic. I love an assignment. Can you remember the literacy show on the ABC called 'Words and Pictures'? We used to watch it at school. I can even remember the plummy intonation of the announcer at the beginning of the program:
'Wooooords and PICCCtyers'.
I'm going to play along too.
Can we draw something, too?
ooh I'll play this week =)
count me in!
I love Bird by Bird, it always comforting and inspiring to read when the words aren't flowing.
An assignment! I LOVE an assignment!
I'll write it up tomorrow, after I make Ander & Zaza their lunches...
xo,
stacey z
I just had a crack at this over at my blog. Nothing elaborate I'm afraid, but was fun :)
Great idea, I started off with just a little idea, then remembered more and more as I went!
I'll give it a whirl. The topic has reminded me of my mum's 70's version of a treat in the lunchbox - milo sandwiches on wholemeal!
the good, the bad and the just plain weird lunches are coming back to me now....! i can't wait to write about this! Who knew that years later we would spend time writing about school lunches!!
can i join? do i post one right now?
i came across your lovely blog in the nick of time. I will enjoy participating, practicing the very things my heart skips a beat for!
That was fun...Ah the memories.
well posted one it made me think of heaps more memories thanks for that i will have a bigger smile on my face for the rest of the day.
I'd love to join in. School lunches, school dinners. My students love it when we can cook something nice just before lunch.
Yay! being a latecomer I'm joining with the fragrant theme, but I'll do my best to catch up on the ones i've missed!
