Tell Me Three Things?

The shop is closed for a mini-break today and tomorrow. (It's ANZAC day here in Australia - a day to remember the too many people who have died in too many Wars over the last century.)

I'm really pleased to have a day to just do non-Mike's things! So here's what I want to do today:

  • Read some more of The River Cottage Family Cookbook - which is Loobylu's favourite, I bought it because she loves it so much - and it is probably one of my top 5 faves too! Amazon have it SUPER SUPER DOOPER cheap. I got mine for $60 at Borders (reduced because it was shop soiled) and it's over at Amazon for $21.45US!
  • Make my own raindrop lullaby via Keri Smith
  • Roast the pork I bought yesterday with some boiled-then-baked potatoes - Ari and I will eat the vegies and Max and Cam will eat the meat! I love spuds. In fact I love carbs full stop.
  • Watch Kat Macleod (Did you know that Kat worked alongside Head Girl Simone Elder -my superfave designer - on our book? She did indeed.) via Hello Sandwich - click there!
  • Marvel at Claire's papercutting - wow.
  • Drink coffee - we buy our beans at the Vic Market and grind them at home. We make our coffee in the stove top espresso pot. I do have an Atomica one too - but the screw-on bit is jammed closed and we have to break it open and get a new part for it. (Which seems a bit complex, not to mention violent)
  • Crochet Granny Squares - maybe 2 today from '200 Crochet Blocks' by the prolific Jan Eaton - yikes she's written the whole gamut of craft books - I have the UK edition.
  • Looking at more pictures of Attic24's Dorset Holiday. Sigh.
  • Drink tea - I'm liking the Twinings Afternoon Tea one in the blue packet
  • Plant some more things - some shade-liking flowers is what I need for under our light-dappling tree - suggestions?!
  • Read all about Melbourne Girl Miss Woolly's new cross-stitch Book! Yay! Go Eliza!
  • Hope Cam will make me some breakfast for a treat - cheese on toast would be nice
  • Take Rin to get sewing supplies from Spotlight
  • Watch telly with the kids - maybe some cooking shows and some kid shows too
  • Watch some River Cottage online - how cool that you can watch eps online!
  • Hope it's not raining tomorrow when we are meeting at the Market! Rug up girls!

It's been such a hugely busy year for us already. The Book. Brown Owls. The Kids. The Shop. And even more stuff happening and we're only April. I'm wondering how much busier we can get!? A bit, I think, because we're hatching some new plans as we speak!

But all that's okay. I am really totally hopeless when I have nothing to do. Busy is really the wind in my sails that keeps me going. That's not to say that I don't like the quiet times too, but it's the 'stuff' that keeps me energised. As long as I can go upstairs with my crochet and some books and a pot of chai and the family at the end of the day, I'm totally okay with the busy.

(I'm ESPECIALLY energised by the emails I keep getting from people who have learnt to crochet from our book (or from Brown Owls or from the guidelines on this blog). It's so great, I can't even believe it! Do you want to learn to crochet? Do you think you can't? You can. Please try. I know you can. Check out the Brown Owls Members blog for the crochet posts and links over there too.)

I wonder what you are doing this weekend?
Tell me 3 things.
Go on. I totally want to know!

xx Pip

  1. Hi Pip,

    This weekend I will be...

    - celebrating Anzac day by going to the dawn service in Adelaide followed by breakast with friends a family.
    - finishing the cushion that I'm knitting and going to buy some more yarn to do another one.

  2. Hi Pip. I'm looking and blogging about old things in my box of amazing stuff from my family. I'm seeking out eclectic retro-inspired stuff for a market display and I'm hoping to stumble on a good garage sale, but they are hard to find here. Good ones that is...

    thanks for sharing!

  3. Well, today I'm brainstorming and hopefully making my mum a mother's day present and making a case baggy thing to take my supplies for the dressmaking class I just signed up for. Tomorrow I'm going to the Campberwell market with you! And when I get home I think I'll make a pie for Family Sunday night dinner. :)

  4. Hi Pip!

I love it how you encourage us all to join in!

    Three things:

    * A free, friendly swing dance class at a new friends house.
    * A painting so I have something new to put on my blog!
    * A bit more knitting of my cosy multicoloured scarf.

  5. Your weekend plans sound fantastically energetic, well done. I plan to watch my 9 yo daughter play in an Anzac day round robin netball comp. I have a very long list of domestic chores that I am struggling to get to (including tidying my sewing room) so I am going to make a list of all the chores, cut them into strips, put them in a jar, and fish out one a day! Then I am going to make some of my world famous(well family famous) kangaroo tail soup. yum!

  6. Hi again!

This weekend I'm making a yummy slow cooked lamb casserole for dinner tonight and tomorrow; watching my 14 month old (who's also just learned to walk - yay!, it IS so fun isn't it!) trudge around our garden in his gumboots, watering his herbs and vegies, and sneaking in lots of crochet, knitting and sewing.

Oh, and enjoying the fact that everything is wet because it has finally rained in Adelaide!

  10. Under the tree, you can't beat bromeliads, not really flowers, but they do flower and they have the most gorgeous leaves and they just keep multiplying. I love them, but not sure if they'd enjoy the chilly Melbourne winters, might be more of a subtropical plant.

    3 things:

Watch my daughter play basketball - Done!

Visit a friend and her almost 1 yo - Done!

Sewing, reading about sewing, blogging, and perhaps even another try at learning to crochet, altho I really think I need one on one tuition. Am going to go to a class at the Brisbane Stitches and Craft Fair and get myself sorted!

    Have a lovely weekend. :-)

  11. Hi Pip!
    This weekend I am:

    1. making granny squares! I was at Brown Owls on Monday night and thought I would never get it! But after sleeping on it and reading your instructions again in the morning - now I understand! And I am totally addicted!!
    2. putting my favourite photos taken on my Diana into my super special album called More Merry Stories from the fabulous rebound books
    3. making pesto from my basil on the verandah before it gets too cold and it all dies on me.

Oh and right now I'm watching Father of the Bride - I love this movie!!

  12. This weekend I am:

Making enchanted trifle - this one has plums poached with cinnamon, peaches poached with vanilla. Jelly made by setting the poaching liquor and proper home made egg custard. Decadent and yum.

Working on my giant prime number granny square rug. Just one giant granny square rather than lots joined together and blue with every prime numbered row in red.

Making my Mum's birthday present - knitting up a box which I will felt and line with stiffening and fabric and fill with sewing goodies.

But the best bit will be sitting on the couch with Scott and the puppies watching the wild weather go past on the mountain.

Hope you all have the most satisfyingly productive of weekends xx

  13. p.s. I just watched the Kat Macleod video, it makes my head spin! I did some college work inspired by her last term, watching her work is even more fascinating than I could have imagined...

p.p.s. did you know that if you type 'meet' into australian google you are the 3rd option on the drop down list?!

  14. Hi Pip

My three things this weekend are:

-Making an anzac cake with honey icing.
-attempting my first ever granny square!
-watching Yellow Submarine with the beasties.

I hope to able to do some winter planting tomorrow too if the weather is kind. Speaking of the River Cottage Family Cookbook I got mine online through Abebooks. It is an excellent source of secondhand books and I only ended up paying $25 delivered!

  17. This weekend I'll be/have been taking it as easy as possible!

    (1) So far I've baked ANZAC bikkies with all three(!) kids (littlest one asleep on my chest in the sling), and plans for tomorrow include

    (2) trying to get into the disastrous 3rd bedroom to continue the Big Declutter, and perhaps... if we are all well,

    (3) a lunchtime outing to somewhere with dumplings
