Albert Kahn was a wealthy fella. A banker, in fact, with a heart of gold and pockets deep enough to be able to unleash his army of expert photographers and create a photographic record of.... the WORLD.  Amazing, no?  I found out about Mr Kahn via this ace blog.  You can find out more about Albert Kahn in lots of different ways.

  • There is a fabulous book which documents a few of the 72 000 autochrome photographs that Kahn commissioned : read more about the book here.  I can vouch for it's amazingness.
  • There is a museum in Paris, dedicated to the work and memory of Mr Kahn. You could go there.
  • And the BBC produced a series detailing the places and people involved in the life of Kahn too.  You could watch that, couldn't you?!

What do you think?  Amazing no?  Imagine the filing system they use for all those photos! Yikes!

:: Five Favourites

How about we play Five Faves again?!  Here are my faves for the week just gone.  If you'd like to play, just add your link below!

These images were found via Girl From the Corner Table (the top one is by Samantha Lamb and the bottom one is by House of Pictures)  Girl From the Corner Table is a gorgeous blog full of lovely interiors and pretty, dreamy photos. Go take a peek, I think you will like it!

Clogs. I have a total clog fetish. I have a LOT of pairs of clogs.  My favourites come from Westcountry Clogs.  They have a zillion colours.  AND they are only about $80AUD including postage and they get here super quick.  I have purple ones and yellow ones  They keep my feet warm and comfy and look super cute with tights. I am going to slowly collect them all, I think. I will be the crazy clog lady.  I would not mind that a bit.

The gorgeous blog of violaSometimes : lovely interiors, and photos with a crafty edge.

This image via My Notebook : it's by the very excellent Oleg Oprisco. (Big thanks to Elissa who sourced the image credit via the amazing reverse image search engine Tiny Eye!)

Looking forward to reading your faves this week, too!  Hope you are having an ace Monday so far!

:: Behold The Mega Doily

Of course you need a mega doily for your living room floor. Can you believe this is all done by hand?  Sans hook. Wow. That takes a pretty serious understanding of crochet and knots, along with some serious dedication.  I know that $600 seems like a lot of money... but really, considering the work that has gone into this, I think it is a snip at $600. Not that I have $600. But you might, right?

:: Breakfast?

What's for breakfast at yours?

I am making potato latke. Because I was feeling too peaky to go to the market. (I am saving myself for Lulu's party later today!) Anyhoo, I figured I would make something nice for when Cam returns, soggy and laden with delicious things.

I made a little tomato and basil salad, some guacamole and latke. Don't get me wrong. Usually I just make a nuisance of myself in the morning and skip breakfast. Or have it at about 11. And then lunch at 4. Today I am just making up for not joining in, I guess!

So. What IS for breakfast at yours?

I watched Life on Mars Season One and Two.
But I just can't get enough of Ashes to Ashes, actually.
Fire up the Quattro. You are surrounded by armed bastards.

Perfect to make with a kidlet and stick in the garden. Or sandpit.
Or make them yourself and pop them in planter in your cute house.
Or make tiny ones and spear them into cupcakes!

:: Barbapapa Family : Crochet Pattern

Look how great these are.  Some people are so clever, I think.  These guys look pretty easy to make.  (They will happily sit on your washing machine, which is good to know.)  Find the pattern here. It costs a wee $7.90.  Total bargain.  And who doesn't adore Barbapapa?!

:: Remedial Eating

Remedial Eating is a beautiful blog.  I visit regularly, because I love the photos a lot and I love the writing even more.  I really think it is ace when someone sits down and takes the time to write something long and meaty, without getting self indulgent. I like to get a feel for people's lives, and sometimes a snippet won't do.  Sometimes you need a story, not a snippet.  That is what Remedial Eating is all about. Little stories about the stuff that is going on in the life of Molly.

Ms Molly knows a lot about food and good cooking and cookbooks and she is happy to share the stuff she's learned along the way.  It feels kind of like you are in her kitchen and she is feeding you walnut scones and chatting about recipes betwixt the crumbs and the butter.  And it smells like coffee.

That's the Tom Kha Gai (Thai Chicken and Coconut Soup) she just made up there.  The perfect restorative, soothing soup, methinks. Yum.  Go here for the recipe.

Yay for Molly!

:: Owen Gildersleeve

Last year, London Real Estate agent Douglas and Gordon asked Owen Gildersleeve and lots of other artists to create pieces to illustrate their agency's Ten Commandments.  Such a great idea, and so good to see Real Estate agents doing more than ruining strip shopping strips, driving rents up and avoiding repairs.  Not to be tetchy or anything.

You can see the other artworks here.  Wouldn't it be great if there were more collaborative corporate Vs art projects like this? I think so. (I hope they stick to their Ten Commandments, too.)

:: We All Live In A Yellow Submarine

I love this series of colour coded vintage adorable-ness  as featured by the clever gals at SeeSaw.  If you have not been there, you must visit!  There are cute photos of where they work and what they love, as well as links to their letterpress and etsy stores too.  I do not know how three gals can fit so perfectly on one SeeSaw, but they do.  Go see.  Go get happy on Le SeeSaw!

Inspired by Miss Lucy over at Attic 24, Miss Petra made this lovely blanket! Isn't it cool to see someone use PINK!  I like pink!  Pink is good!  Go visit Petra and congratulate her on her ace-ness, I say! She has some good stuff to say about crocheted edgings and egg cosies, too!  How rad!

:: We Heart Rex Ray : Our New Window

P5260046
P5260047
P5260052

Our new window is a bit of a lovey dovey ode to Rex Ray.

It was sad to say goodbye to this window... but it was time for something new.  Rin and I spent most of the day cutting out and sticking up a gazillion cute colourful raindrops, much to the amusement of passersby.  And also, if you missed my last post, Naboo from The Mighty Boosh dropped in mid-window.  I think he liked it too.  Mostly he liked the cute carry bags we have with Golden Book pages stuck to them. And he liked Rin and put her and Joe's name on the door for his gig on Friday night.  Awright.

But back to the window.  We made little take-away raindrops and stuck them to the outside of the window too. It's really nice if you can take a piece of the window home, I think.  I like interactivity!

Do you like it?  The window, I mean!

:: For Smalls and Talls

I want to buy nearly everything there is to buy on the Smallable website. It's really jam packed full of cleverly curated bits and bots for big people and small people too.  These are some of my favourites.  What do you think?  What do you like?!  Shall we back up the track and smash our piggy banks?
