:: New! Not! Blogs!

I am sure I have posted about this before, but I shall post about it again.

NEW!

In the land of internet, blogs, craft, fashion it's all about the LATEST thing.  Many people are keen to post the freshest of the fresh.  And that is good. I want to see all the new things on the block (many of which are probably just new-to-us, admittedly.)  I like to see who has the scoop on the hippest of the 'un-seen'.  I do.

BUT.  I really do love my favourites.  It's not to say the newbies won't become my favourites, not at all... but I don't want my favourites to be constantly cast aside.  I like my faves on the front-burner and my newbies fresh out of the oven.  I like them side by side, kinda thing.  It's not all about the new.  I like the not new, too.

Here are some of my super faves.  The very first blogs I ever read and liked.  Not only were my faves when my blog was new (2006/2007), they are my faves now, too.

Posy Gets Cozy
The very sleepy Loobylu
Genki
Three Buttons
Black Eiffel
Angry Chicken
Kaotic Kraft Kuties
Aunty Cookie
The Small Object
Kootoyoo
Decor8

What are you faves from when you first started out reading blogs?

xx Pip

  6. When I first started reading blog I only read scrapbooking blogs...I thought that was all that was out there. Slowly I expanded including crafty blogs and now my goggle reader holds blogs on all different subjects including and not limited to food, art, news, entertainment, scrapbooking (still!), fashion and most importantly things I find interesting.

My three favourite blogs are Danimezza, yours and my own of course!! :)

  7. my first blogs were all knitting related. the one all encompassing blog that i have "stuck" with the longest, however, is probably the "Craft:" blog. The magazine was dreamy, and the blog is an extension of that was so great about it.

  11. I was pretty slow to get into the whole reading blogs thing (shhh don't tell anyone!)

This is one of the first blogs I started reading and it remains one of my favourites.

    I also really love http://www.deadfleurette.com/
While I've only recently discovered her blog, she's certainly no newbie to the blogging scene (unlike myself!)

  14. I started blogging around 1999-2000, and I can't find too many still going, that I remember from then. Even I don't have _all_ my archives online yet, from that early blog time. It was way early Pyra/Blogger. I was 'Bindi', then.

    I shall cheat a tad with favs I follow from here and there;

Apart from your own good, crafty self, Pip, my constant favs are:

    LJCFYI - http://www.ljcfyi.com/

    Welcome to DeluxeVille: http://welcometodeluxeville.blogspot.com/

    My Paper Crane: http://www.mypapercrane.com/

Ones from the same time are luminaries such as MegNut, Evhead and Barbelith (blog, not comic).

  20. hello pip

I'm new to blogging but I've been a reader since way back and I've been making since I was born, possibly before... it feels that way.

Does it really matter if blogs are old or new so long as they keep spinning your buttons or get your pom poms in a twist? I must say I'd never thought about the distinction between old and new before.

I discover new blogs all the time and some of them are old but because I just found them, they feel new to me. What I love best is when you google something and it brings up a random post from a blog that fell by the wayside in 2007 and you take the time to read back through all the inspirations of someone who no longer inhabits that space, someone who's moved on... maybe to a new blog... it's like finding old artwork left in the shed of a share-house or Henry Darger's room...

I hope that someone clever's thinking about a way to archive all this for the future, because I'd love our kids to be able to explore this world one day!

I love theblackapple.typepad (an oldie) and misakomimoko.blogspot (a newbie... sort of...) and dearada.typepad (now archives) which recently fell by the wayside...

Oh and one for Melbourne... littlelostlove.blogspot (yeah... I'm not sure)

    xoxoxoxo

  21. I guess I am just saying (in regard to new and not...) don't always be on the hunt for the new. Don't consume blogs as though they are fast food... because it's not about new... it's about quality and relevance to you too! xx

    ReplyDelete
  22. here here!
what I do love about this blog is that Pip is not afraid to have a voice, to open things up for discussion, to even dabble in politics occassionally... and that is a rare and wonderful thing in the creative blogging world.
    Three cheers for Pip's blog...

    Hip, hip.. HOORAY! xox
