:: OMG! WIN Three Lovely Books!

Well would you LOOK AT THESE BOOKS! OH EM GEE!  How terrific are they? Do you want to win them?  Well... if you live in Australia YOU CAN! Answer my question before midnight Melbourne time on Friday and I will choose a winner over the weekend!  To win :: Simply tell me ::

Why do you like to visit my blog?!  Where do you live?!  How long have you been reading?!

Here is a bit more about these nice books...

My Abuela's Table by Daniella Germain
You might remember I posted about this book a little while ago, even before I had my hands on a copy.  Daniella is a very talented illustrator. Holy smoke she is great.  Her drawings are simply lovely and coupled with a whole heap of her grandma's recipes, it is itself a recipe for RAD.    (Luckily I have gotten to know Dany a bit better, because we have been working on a project together with our publisher Hardie Grant!) Miss Germain is currently blogging over here, so that would be a lovely way to get to know more about her.  Dany also guest blogged over here last week (with lots of recipes!), but I bet you already knew that!!  Thank you to Hardie Grant for sending me this book to give away!  (I am very lucky because they sent me an extra copy to keep!)

Tucked In by Meredith Gaston
I first saw Meredith's book at the Brunswick Street Bookstore when my sister was in town. I snapped a photo of the cover and later got online to ask Penguin Books for a copy to give away.  Wow.  This book is really so adorable. It's a guide on being cosy and relaxed and snoozy and happy.  I mean. REALLY?!  To me that is probably one of the top five books a person would EVER need!  And how great that Meredith got to write and illustrate such an IMPORTANT BOOK!  It's really very important to take time to restore yourself and treat yourself.  It really is.  This book is the definitive guide to comfy niceness.  Thank you Penguin for not minding when I cheekily asked for this book!  I am so glad I can give it away to someone deserving!  I am even going to buy myself a copy, because I love it so much. Yes.

You Sew Girl by Nicole Mallalieu
I have known Nicole Mallalieu for a couple of years now. Do you know her?  She's a really nice lady and she has worked super hard to put this book together.  Do you want to know how to sew PROPERLY?! Do you want to make things that look super profesh and not too wonky?  This is your book.  Nicole knows everything about sewing.  If there was a Precision Driving Team for sewing machines, she would be the top rev-head in the cutest floral pitsuit.  This book has step by step instructions for making skirts and belts and bags and hats and all kinds of pretty and practical things.  Thanks to Harper Collins for sending me Nic's book!  Thanks to Nicole for working so very hard and sharing her skills with us!

Good Luck!  The questions again are ::

Why do you like to visit my blog?!  Where do you live?!  How long have you been reading?!

  1. Pip! These books are divine!! And your questions are SO easy for me to answer :)
I visit your blog for inspiration. Seriously, I have a hundred of your blog entries bookmarked, so when the crafty bug itches, I can come back and check them out.
I live in Melbourne, and I have been reading your blog ever since my friend bought me your 'Sew La Tea Do' book for my birthday last November. We visited your store not long after and I have been SEW hooked ever since (haha, lame joke).
Thanks for the chance to win! Xx

  2. Hi Pip,
I started reading your blog (18 months ago?) because my friend had your book and I like it. Also, I thought I would like you because your name is Pip and my daughter's (middle) name is Pip and I think Pip's are nice! Once I started reading I kept going because I love your writing style and your enthusiasm and your choice of topics to share are always interesting and often thought provoking for me. This sounds like I'm sucking up, maybe I am, but it's true too! I live in Adelaide. These books look rad, and I have been dreaming about 'My Abuela's Table' since you last talked about it, so thanks for the chance to win!

  3. I first visited your blog after I found it with a google search for 'learn to crochet'. I fell in love with your blog and haven't stopped reading since. I live in Adelaide, so it is nice to have a fellow Aussie on my google reader blog list, along with the endless list of American bloggers (not that they are any less awesome). And - I have been reading forever!

  9. :: Hello Pip!
Well, firstly I don't just like your blog, I LOVE IT!!
Why? Because it's fun, refreshing, quirky, resonates with my soul and I find it uplifting, nourishing, and always makes me smile. It's great for a crafty thingy, great for a recipe, great for inspiration.

I live in St Kilda, Melbournia, and I've been reading your pretty, sparkly blog for about a year now.

  10. Yay for lovely books!
I visit your book because it's so real! Some blogs seem to whinge a lot or make everything so peachy that it seems fake. Yours is all about you and what you like and I tend to like the same things.
I live in lovely Hobart, Tasmania.
I started following your blog in the middle of 2009 after seeing your first book in a shop and then asked for your the book for my birthday that August.

  12. A faraway blogger here--I'm from Idaho. I've been reading, oh, probably a year a half (?-who knows!). And I love your blog because I always see fun new stuff here that I don't see elsewhere, and I like your crafties! Thanks for the giveaway!

  13. I visit your blog for inspiration, and because I love crafty blogs. But I also like the personal touches you add to your blog. You try to remain upbeat even when times are tough, and you acknowledge that life is sometimes difficult but can be beautiful and fun, too.
I live in Perth WA, but spent a big part of my early married years in the Wheatbelt and felt very inspired by the country ladies who love to cook and craft.
How long have I been reading? Well, a long time. Ever since before I started school and my favourites were Heidi and Alice in Wonderland. But if you mean how long I have been reading your blog, then since the last "envelope project" which was really fun and created a great sense of community.

  14. I visit your blog for all sorts of stuff - crafty, community, cooking etc. I live in Sydney. I have been reading for a few years... I used to live in Melbs & visit your shop... hard to say exactly how long!

  15. Hmm, I meant to say I visit your BLOG not book!

  16. hello pip! your blog was the very first that I regularly started to read...and I still think it's tops four years later. I live over in perth ('westside'), and recently came for a MMAM look-see, as I usually do, when in Melbs. Only you were shut! So some window-peeking was as close as I could get. devastated!

  17. Why do I visit your blog? For inspiration of course, but I also love that you just never know what might turn up. You're not predictable which is good thing, I just love the variety. I have you in my #1 folder in my google reader ... that's the folder that I also make sure I read every post. I live in Melbourne (Surrey Hills at the moment but we are building just across the way in Canterbury). I think I've been popping in here for about a year.

  18. I like to visit your blog because it's so sweet and nice, it's like talking to a friend! Plus there is always lots of crafty inspiration. I live in Melbourne, (East Malvern to be specific), and I have been reading for a little over a year, around about the time I started my own blog and discovered you could follow other people's! :D

  19. What a lovely giveaway! I like to visit your blog for your wonderful tutorials and fun crafty things like that! It was your great step by step that finally got me to crochet - after several other failed attempts using other tutorials. You're great! I live in Sydney, and I've been reading along with you for a few years now!
    Splendid! x

  20. The books all look so lovely! I visit your blog for crafty ideas and just for nice things to look at and read! I've been reading only a month or so (when I realised I didn't have any craft blogs in Reader and had to rectify that!), but have also had a peek at your book and heard other good things before that! I live in Melbourne.
(PS - sorry if I posted twice, I don't think it worked the first time..)

  21. Oh they are lovely!

I have been reading for a few years now (I think). It seems like that anyway. I like your crafty ideas, your food and now that I live in Melbourne, your words about things in this big town. I started reading when I discovered that I was not the only person that like craft and that while I had been living in the sleep deprived world of a new mother, that craft had gotten cool!

I moved to Fitzroy North 2 months ago from the beachy NSW Central Coast and love it. It's like I have always been here.

I love reading your blog, when I can because you rock. simply, you inspire me. I admire the fact that you have a shop, you make things, write books and run a family.

I'm up here in BrisVegas and have been reading ever since you moved to Fitzroy. how long IS that?

  23. I like to read your blog because it's quirky and inspiring. I live in Wollongong, NSW and have been following you for about 6 months now, after my husband bought me 'Meet Me at Mikes' for Christmas. :) Darling husband, he is.

  24. Hi Pip!

    To answer your questions...

    1) I can't actually remember how I came across your blog - maybe a Google search for "Granny Squares"?? Why I keep coming back is that I get an insight into your thoughts, ideas and a small window to peek into your life. Your blog is colourful, comforting, thought-provoking and totally entertaining. It's a blog community and you can definately feel the good vibes. I am all about good vibes at the moment. Plus, you are a seriously cool chick!

    2) I live in Como. Not Lake Como or Como in Western Australia or any Como other than the one in Sydney.

    3) Hmmm - Reading in general or reading your blog? I started reading your blog probably in November last year, I think. Reading in general, must be at least since I was in kindy when I was 4 or 5 (**doing the maths**); must be 20 years now.

    Love your work Pip!!

    Rach.

  25. I read because I think you and your blog are cute and they give me warm fuzzies. I lived most of my little life in Canterbury in Melbourne with mama and papa bear but I got married a few months ago and now I live in Balwyn. I have been reading for about two happy years!

  26. I read your blog because I am somewhat obssessed with making things, particularly crochet things, and I gather inspiration. I live in Sydney, where they have your book in a funky shop in Newtown called Pentimento. I've only subscribed to your blog about two weeks ago (following a link somewhere for the pippy slippers) but I love it!

  27. Oh my dear Miss Pip where to start? It all began at 3 am which is normally when naughty things happen not lovely things. I had tucked my babies in for the night but I couldn't sleep. Poor Fatty was in intensive care because he had managed to make himself mostly dead which fortunately for us was still a little bit alive. I had spent several days and nights staring into the middle distance driving myself slowly mad. In these circumstances I would have normally picked up a book but shock is a bit tricky on the brain. It wouldn't let me read.
So at 3 am one night I thought I would teach myself to crochet. I could already knit but the crochet fairy had alluded me. It was your tutorials darling Pip that I found. I became known as the mad woman with the wool in the hospital. 6 blankets on I still love it and found it helps me so much through all our endless waiting at outpatients and cubicles.
I am afraid you are stuck with me love. Since May 2009 when my life went a bit squiffy this blog has been a constantly little sunny spot for me to visit when all around me has been bleak and overcast. (although the overcast bit could be to do with being a Melbourne girl)

  30. Hi Pip! I like to visit your blog because its inspiring, looks great, and feels friendly! I am on a bit of a quest to learn to make as much as I can from scratch (thinking about starting a blog about it actually!) – everything from food to clothes to gardens to things for the house, arty things, warm things, useful things, cute things….and often I will open your blog to find just the tip I am looking for (this happened when I was learning to bake bread and you did a bit of a baking post a while ago about making bread and sometimes bribing Nino to let you put your bread in his oven). It’s a bit serendipitous. I also love the tutorials on how to do crochet/knitting/crafting etc and often forward links to your craft tutorials to friends in the “Crafternoon” group I have.

I live in Mount Saint Thomas which is just outside Wollongong, in an old house with my rad partner and our menagerie of cats and dog, surrounded by books, musical instruments, art supplies and evolving permaculture gardens! I love it here… there’s a gorgeous mountain AND a beach, and I’m close enough to Sydney that I can go there for city-ish stuff when I want to, but I don’t have to live in the middle of it. Truth be told, city-wise I’m more of a Melbourne gal at heart but we visit a few times a year so I get to have a Melbourne fix too…

I’ve been reading your blog for ages.. not sure how long exactly, but maybe a few years?

Anyhoo, I’d love a copy of those books if you are feeling generous!? Fingers crossed!

  31. Oh my what an awesome giveaway!

I like to visit your blog to get inspiration and drink in the general loveliness.

I live in Northcote, now. We just moved from Sydney! Imagine my delight when I realised how close I would be to your little shop.

I can't even remember how long I'v been reading your blog! A few years at least. I was reading it before your first book came out...

I have only recently purchased a sewing machine so I will frequently be looking for cute things to make as gifts.

I live in Perth, Western Australia.

I visit your blog to see your crochet, which inspires me to keep going with mine, and to show new to crafting people your awesome tutorials. I used your crochet tutorials *so much* when I was learning! I live in Perth, and I dream of having a Mike-esque shop here to visit ^_^ I'm not sure how long I've been reading ... YEARS! Maybe two or three?
Thanks for being so super and awesome! ^_^

  41. I love to read your blog because you're always super positive so it makes me feel better, it reminds me of how much I love home and inspires me to explore, play and create! (and that I'm ok even if I'm a little weird!)

I'm in lovely super cold melbourne and I've been reading your blog since I met you 4 years ago, after you kindly gave me encouraging words 2 weeks before valentines day that my life is better without my awful ex boyfriend. And how accurate you were, pip!

Even though I'm between Sydney and Melbourne all the time I will say I'm a melbournite. yes.

And when I come home I really want to get back into sewing, knitting and cooking again! I've been buying cheap acrylic yarn from kmart to tide myself over till I get back.

But a little sunshine in my otherwise boring sydney apartment would be SUPER DOOPER!

  44. You have kept popping up in my life over the last couple of years. First the shop in Richmond, then a signed copy of Meet Me at Mikes in the bookshop, teaching me to crochet and your tips on how to enjoy a craftier life through encouragement and sharing.

Your blog brings all the things I love together in the one place and your insights are very insightful, your tutorials are lovely and clear, and your aspirations are inspirational. Also, you show us how much good stuff you can cram into one day and that its not always easy to have a nice life.

I live in East Kew and have been reading your blog for about 10 months. I even started my own blog to capture my year of living creatively and am really enjoying being part of a creative, crafty online community. thanks Pip.

I follow your blog because you're way cool! You have your finger on the pulse and your writing style is really down to earth. You also talk about a diverse range of topics - craft, food, TV, music etc which I like as some blogs can be a bit one dimensional. I also like that you seem to care about others because you're always plugging the lessor knowns.

I live in Sydney's Inner West and I've been following you for about 4 months.

  58. I've been reading your blog for, hmm, maybe 4 years now, maybe even longer, in fact I can't remember how I found the blog (maybe the newspaper?), but I used to pop into your Richmond shop whenever I had my haircut. I was bummed when you moved to Fitzroy as I just can't get over there very often. Sigh. I live in Carnegie BTW. I love that you're about the same age as me and we remember a lot of the same things. And you inspire me to crafty goodness, although I'm still trying to find the time to do very much about that. And you show me lots of lovely things and people around Melbourne and other places too. Thank you! I kind of, sort of feel like I know you even though I don't think we've ever met! (And I'd love to win the books too!)

I love to visit your blog, because you give me a daily dose of creativity, you are such a real person, and I'm sure if you lived here we would be friends! Plus you taught me how to crochet, Thanks for that!! You have also been my naughty procrastination from doing my assignments - I'd so much rather be doing something crafty!
I live in Albury, on the NSW side of the NSW/Vic border.
How long is hard to say, I think i have been coming here for about a year, maybe longer... But you were my first crafty blog that I came across that was in Australia, and you have put me on to so many more crafty and cool design type bloggy people, that I can't thank you enough!!

  68. Hello Pip,
I visit your blog because you tell me to, oh, Pippalotta Links...I love your homely little shop of the same name where once (or many times) I visited and had a close encounter of Pip-licious kind and have been starstruck ever since...I like Mike, I really do!

I live in Bairnsdale in eastern Victoria which is a great place to live if you love op shopping, crafty types and having time and space to think and make...

I am not sure how long I have been tuning in to the Pip-world, but does it really matter? A long time or a lot, it feels like we are old friends and we have known each other for aeons...The generosity of spirit and willingness to share ideas and just the give-give-givingness of this force of personality is truly hard to ignore!!!

  92. Why do you like to visit my blog?!
Well, it was my new year's resolution to be more crafty. I have always been that girl who said 'i wish i could sew, i wish i could knit' until one day i said 'no more wishing!' I bought my sister-in-law your book Sew La Tea Do for Christmas and that was when I first heard of you. I had a few peeks in the book and feel in love - then I decided I needed a copy of my own! Now I am the proud owner of two handmade quilts (including your 'fox in the bed' quilt) and a knitted scarf in progress. Reading your blog provides me with a daily reminder to stay crafty!

    Where do you live?!
    I live in Sydney, Australia.

How long have you been reading?!
I have been reading since the new year. About six months.

Still would like to say that your blog is the best there is in craft blogs, well any. Love what you do, and how you do it being yourself, no imitations. And just by telling about your life like this you are promoting all small businesses, women doing what they love with integrity, AND Australia! I have obsession with the country now! You support other women trying to do the same: do what we love. Thanks so much.

  99. Well Ms Pip, I like to visit your blog because I like the way you articulate your words. That and it's colourful, inspiring and reminds me of stuff from my childhood.

I love your lack of competitiveness with other crafters, in fact that's the most inspiring thing for me about your blog, how you share your skills and knowledge and you share the same from other crafters encouraging them to share themselves and encouraging people to take up craft because it's cool not daggy.

I live in lovely West Gippsland in Victoria, right near the snow....

And I've been reading for ummm, it'd have to be for 4 years or more.

PS on a sidenote which is irrelevant to your blog, more than anything, your message about my Vic Police media interview left me even more inspired by you because you not only realised we have crossed paths but you took the time to acknowledge that so thanks :)

  101. Hi,

You have an easy friendly style and you are cool and post about cool, fun stuff. As much as I love blogs from the northern hemisphere it's great to read home grown stuff where you feel you're amongst friends, Thanks!

  102. Dear Pip,

Thanks for having such a lovely giveaway. All 3 books are on my current wishlist - they are so very beautiful to look at and to share. In answer to your 3 questions I'll tell you a story -
Why do you like to visit my blog?!
My very dear friend lent me 'Meet me at Mikes' and from there I discovered your blog. Over the last year I have been stuck at my desk alot in the middle of the night studying for my specialist exams and your blog has not only been a daily source of creativity it has also been the touchstone to the self I am outside of medicine / study / nightshift and hospital life in general. You've reminded me of the importance of nurturing the soul, esp when life gets a little out of control and through your blog I've discovered other creative souls writing and sharing their thoughts and things they've made. And instrutions on how to make things (like a doll I made my friend's baby!) You've also been a source of reconciliation within my own family as I share what I've been reading with my mum and together we've started sewing and cooking together alot more which is wonderful. Plus, your recipe for coconut ice earned me serious brownie points (thanks!!). I too have dug out some old recipe cards AND reread Pride & Prejudice (now my exams have finished). You've inspired an annual crafty weekend away with the girls (last year I beaded but this weekend I'm learning to knit). AND you're gorgeous Sew La Tea Do was my farewell present to my best friend when she moved to Paris taking only her dog AND her sewing machine. So really there are many reasons why I read your gorgeous blog - you are, as mentioned many times above creative inspiration to many of us, you write in a way that is so real and so friendly and reminds us that we can also make bake / stitch! But, more than that you remind me of important parts of myself too. artistic, creative, day dreamy, inspired and invigorated parts! Its not an exaggeration to say I owe you a giant thanks for all the positivity and gentle reminders of life outside the books your blog provided me in the grim hours of nights in the last year!!

As to where do I live - Newcastle NSW

How long have you been reading?! I've been reading your blog for about 18months I think but it feels like there hasnt been a time when i haven't been reading your blog! Though when I first read this question I thought it was asking how long I've been reading at all and that's a tougher question - since before I can remember, when I was just chewing on book corners thinking I was reading I guess.

I know there are many many souls worthy of this prize but if you do randomly (or otherwise) pick mine I would be most most grateful and you can be assured that the books will go to not one but a few loving homes as I share my books around a little but only after i've devoured on them and only to very dear friends on pain of excommunication if they are not returned!
Thanks you!! sorry for the essay but you are just really wonderful!

    em :)

Your blog is such a positive place to visit, and when I was going through a particularly hard time in my life your blog was a lovely refuge for me. Somewhere that I knew I could always find something beautiful to look at and be inspired by, and someone who was friendly, positive and kind. I visit also because I am crafty, and have always been crafty, and this was somewhere that I felt I belonged. You helped me to master crochet, and now I crochet most nights and get so much joy from making things for my family. I am from lovely Adelaide, where it is very cold right now, and I've been reading your blog for about three years now. Thank you for your lovely blog and your kindness x

I also learned to crochet because you told me I should when I visited your shop years ago! I live in Brisbane and have been reading your blog since 2009, or maybe before, I can't remember.

  121. I visit your blog 'cos it always has something new and happy.

I'm not sure how long I've been reading it, at least 3 years, but maybe 4? I've been a Brown Owl for 2 years.

    I live in Sydney!

  122. Hola Pip! I started reading your blog maybe about a year ago. I've been to your shop around 2004 and was uber excited when I found your blog. I like to drop by because it is always filled with creative craftiness and you make me want to move to Melbourne every time I visit. I'm from Sydney and it is super cold at the moment, if only I've finished crocheting that scarf I've stared last weekend.

  123. Gorgeous and generous offer.
Have been reading your blog for over a year, it was welcome relief from my post grad studies.
Live in a leafy and windy part of Melbourne.
Fell in love with the orange box recipes of Form 4 home ec classes.

  124. Hurrah! I live in sunny Melbs and often make the stroll to visit the bricks and mortar Mike's - which is rad! I have been reading for a long time, maybe even about 2 years, I can't remember exactly but it feels like forever in a good way. I can't pick one particular reason why I visit, in no particular order: because I love the clog shots, I find your craftiness both refreshing and not so daunting, I like how you post recipes (cos I like cooking super yummy things), and I love your passion - people should be more passionate about stuff don't you think?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Heya Pip! I come to read your blog daily because you write such awesome stuff! You always have something different and new! Plus I love to see what you are working on! Plus I love all your cute patterns! I started reading only recently when a friend introduced me to your books and then liked you on facebook so I too like you! I live in Sydney and have done all my life bar one year in Wollongong! But maybe next year we will be down the coast again!

Thanks for the chance to win such beautiful and inspiring books!

  126. Hi Pip!
I subscribe to way too many blogs - in the 100s - so they are divided into folders. Then I found I couldn't get through them all in one day so I made a favourites folder that I look at first every day. Guess who sits atop the favourite list - Y-O-U! And you've been there for about 2 years now, as one of the first blogs I ever came across, when I barely knew what the word blog meant! I live in Adelaide and yearn to have the market culture of Melbourne at my fingertips, although little old Ad does have some nice offerings. I mostly visit your blog for your writing which makes me think, laugh and want to investigate more. I love the simple craft, your tv and film intersts and mostly just you, because the YOU shines through loud and clear and simply in every post, just as a true blog should do. xx Pam Hurrah!

  127. Why do you like to visit my blog?!
I like your style and all the cute things you bring us, and you helped me find Brown Owls in two different cities.

    Where do you live?!
I live in Adelaide now, but lived in Canberra until recently, allowing me to join different Brown Owls. I still miss my Canberra Owlies.

How long have you been reading?! I've been reading a couple of years at least, I've lost track - time flies when you're having fun :)

Such gorgeous books! I'd love to win them. It means I'd probably buy my own and give away these ones.

  128. Fell in love with your book and started reading your blog over a year ago. I live in Melbourne and enjoy following your blog.

  129. Hi there....what a fab fab bunch of giveaways!!!! I follow your blog because I can, because it makes me feel down right homey and 'mother earthy' and because I can't make stuff I still get to regularly see what others can do!! I hail from Amazing Adelaide, SA and I have been reading like f.o.r.e.v.e.r!!!! - in regards to your blog I have been reading since March 2010 when I first discovered this whole magical world of blogging.......yours was one of the first sites I 'followed' and I am so so glad that I did!! Thanks Pip for all you do and all you put out there, TK xx

  130. I visit your blog everyday for the inspiration, the photos, the ideas and your writing, it is so friendly and inviting. I have been reading your blog for over a year now and your blog and book taught me home to crotchet. Yay for crotchet! I live in Melbourne and love visiting your shop :)

  131. Hi Pip!
I come to your blog for a break from study, and a big bite of creativity given that biomedicine isn't the most exciting topic all the time (most of the time tough!). I also love the personal touch you give your blog, its kinda endearing, like a mother!
I like in Melbourne in Kew, and I guess that's another reason I love it, its so topical and often local!
I think I started reading about 9 months ago, probably just before uni exams... Typical!

  132. I like reading your blog because it inspires my creativity and makes me happy! It's so fun.

I'm an American expat living in London and have been reading your blog since before the book came out - I'm a true fan!

  133. I love the look of Daniella's book!

Why do you like to visit my blog?!
I like to visit your blog because you always have such a sunny way of looking at life - even when you're sick or something bad has happened, like you can't breath and have to go to hospital, you always have such a positive outlook and I love that. I really do. AND you always have super interesting posts about lots of different, delicious and lovely things and you never skimp on exclamation marks! Hoorah!

Where do you live?! I live in sunny Huonville

How long have you been reading?! Since way before you were famous.

  134. //Your blog is an utter treasure trove - treats, bleats(but thought provoking and definitely NOT whingey, I assure you!), sweets, meets, meats (and lately not so much!), great feats, stuff to warm feets, pleats, greets, tweets, beats, neats and I could never forget to add EATS!

//I live in Stratford in Gippsland, and it was truly lovely that you knew the area, when I visited your lovely shop and bumped into you on the street and couldn't resist saying hello! And you were absolutely as delightful as you always come across on your blog. A lovely memory.

//I do recall reading about Brown Owl activities, I think when you were back in Richmond on Bridge Rd...and this was many, many moons ago...I'd have to really stretch my facilities to recall an actual date. I would definitely say your blog was one of my original favourites, and has continued to be, over the oodles of years of excellent blog reading.

//Just in case this was the answer you required; I have been reading since I was 18 months old. True. Mum has the best story of me learning flash cards with my two older sisters and reading 'chocolate' and pronouncing it "chocco-lart', I love that story.

  135. Hi Pip,

I do love your blog. I love how your personality shines through. Yes, you are so much a dress and clogs girl than jeans however, if you had to wear jeans, let the garment be made of jeans but dressed and be decorated to suit your personality. Buttons of different colours or vintage badges.

I love how you bring back fashion of old in your blog. Where handmade items, strangely, brings back comforting memories of granparents and warm handmade apple pie and clotted cream.

I live a hop and a skip from the Melbourne CBD.

While I do read your blog sporadically, when I do, I find hours fly and suddenly it's dusk and I have missed my favourite TV show, and...when was the last time I have eaten. No matter.....what is it about Knitting being So Hollywood....

Many warm comforting drinks on a cold and windy day,

    Elisa

  136. I just started following your blog today - and am interested on reading because you seem to have the same tastes as I do and I seriously have been hankering to learn how to make granny squares.

I am from the midwest - wiscosin's lovely capital which is such an amazing city.

I have been reading in general since always - I used to crawl out of my crib to get to my books. But as for reading this blog, again, just today but I am currently reading the older posts. :)

  137. Hey Pip!
    OMGoodness - coolest giveaway!
    So, to the details -
I adore reading your blog for many reasons; the main ones being that you are currently teaching me to knit and to crochet, and that reading your blog is like having a conversation with you. Your writing actually comes across as they way you may talk, when so many other blogs just don't connect that way. Also, you are hilarious, and its awesome to find a fellow Aussie blogging.

I live in the currently freezing Nation's Capital, Canberra - this is one pretty city!

I've been reading your blog for a few years now, and now I also read you in print, courtesy of your books - can't wait for the next one to come out! As far as general reading - hmmm around 27 years or so, but that being said, I used to pretend to read when I was a bub - gibbering out loud and squealing, holding my books, so I guess I've been reading nearly my full 29 years :)

    Fingers crossed!
    Luvluv,
    Sway

  138. I can think of many reasons that I read your blog, including the women's weekly recipe card cooking that takes me back to my youth in Balwyn and the frequency of posts about granny squares that remind me of my own granny who taught me to crochet (although never in colours as cool as those you use). However, I think the main reason I read your blog is because you use the word Hurrah! I don't think I need to explain that one ;)

I live local, in a neck of the woods being rediscovered and full of creative types. The last bastion of inner Melbourne cool in my humble opinion. (Am I allowed to be cryptic, I don't want 'everyone' to know how cool it is!!)

I have been reading since this blog bug took hold... since I have been breast feeding... 2 children, 3 years... Nothing like taking the time to stop, read and catch up on some me time. Nourishing the soul while nourishing the child.

  139. I love love love your blog because it gets my creative juices flowing and bubbling up inside. Being in a job that is very office/corporatey-centric, there's nothing better than coming home on a cold wintery day, making a nice cuppa tea and sitting down by the fire to read your blog and ponder over my next crafty adventure ;)

I'm from the greatest wee city, Wellington across the "dutch" but currently reside in awesome Melbourne.

I've been reading this blog for the last few months and still trawling through all of the old posts (awesome).

Would be awesome to win one of these lovely books - thanks for the chance to win!

  140. Hi Pip!

    1. I love to visit you every other day, and sometimes (I'm blushing a little saying this) every day! I get a little sad when you are taking a small break, and hope that you will be there when I visit again. I keep coming back not just for the super-fantastic-crafty chick that you are, but because your posts are so honest, in a way that many other people (including myself) find it difficult to pin down our exact feelings, but you always manage to write exactly those thoughts which we can not.

    2. Melbourne, but can't wait to move back to sunny little Perth next year! Then I will crochet beach bags instead of knitting winter socks.

    3. Reading since I was little, or at least since I can remember! Reading your blog since my sister sent me Meet Me At Mikes in the post two years ago, whilst I was living in New Zealand and generally being very very cold - it was the most exciting thing I've ever received in the mail!

Keep doing what you do best! jel xxx

  141. I like your blog for many of the same reasons that everyone else does. You have a great conversational writing style, and your posts are genuinely inspiring. I love discovering new things, so your links and ideas and photos are always really interesting to me. And it has life, almost like it's a living breathing entity of its own that jumps off the page as I read. I guess it might be your personality shining through your writing.

I work long hours, and not often do I have the time to be crafty, but I love to cook and to collect ideas and to be inspired and educated, and your posts never fail to bring a smile to my face as I read, along with a little flutter of excitement in my heart as I think of what I could achieve if I could allow myself a little me-time. When I am able to have a creative outlet, I feel like I could burst with happiness, especially if it's something that I can give as a gift to family or friends (unfortunately at the moment, this is isolated to inflicting a minimum of one new cookbook recipe per month on my family, and some random plasticine or diorama creations for my 5 year old!). Your blog reminds me of this feeling. Although I don't have many spare moments to actually sit down and create something myself, I love to read about what's possible and marvel at the creativity of others. I love to see photos and hear tales of your daily life. It reminds me of all the things I love to do with my husband and son, and all the things we'd like to do in the future. Thoughts of 'what I want to do when I have time' often include snippets of images from your blog. I love it!

I'm not sure when I first started reading your blog. Not that long ago, I guess. I know it may have been a few months before the yellow box recipes. I remember this because I really loved the yellow box recipe idea as it brought back many happy memories for me! I actually own a yellow box. It was my Nan's and I love it. It's chockers with the original recipe cards, stained from my Nan using them so much, and crammed with more hand written recipes too. Butterfly cakes used to be my fave. My brother loved the Lemon Delicious Pud. Sometimes when I think about the yellow box, it makes me feel sad, but in a really happy kind of way because it reminds me of my wonderful Nan.

Anyway, I live in Vermont South, Melbourne and on our way to the city to buy records or go for a wander, we used to sometimes drive past your shop when it was in Richmond. I always noticed it because my husband's name is Mike :)

I just realised how long my comment is...oops, sorry! I have much to say, and am a bit of a chatterbox. Time to go. Thanks for the opportunity to share, and thank you for having such an entertaining blog!
    Emma :)

I live in Adelaide, cold, rainy Adelaide :)

(I was 5 by the way) But I actually started reading your blog 2ish years ago, when I first started writing my own. I think I found you following links from a Scrapbooker.

I was living in NSW at the time but when we decided to move to King Island, where my husband has been working for a year and commuting, I thought I could visit your store along the way. No such luck, my daughter got a nasty chest infection and we were confined to our accommodation in Melbourne. Anyway, we managed to reach King Island between ash clouds and now I need some contact with the outside world, which I get through visiting various websites like yours. I will be spending lots of my time over the next year making and creating and any one of these books would give me a great start.

I especially love when your email interrupts my working morning and I can get so creatively distracted :) I learnt to crochet from your blog, and have become very home-made since I first visited stumbled on your last year. I was eager to purchase Sew La Tea Do after I saw it in a House magazine last year – that was when I discovered your blog. My 4 and 3 yr old daughters had just fallen in love with movie The Sound of Music (I am a huge fan too!) and we had been singing Do Rae Mi for months. When I saw your book, I thought it was fate! When it arrived, I was in love! I live in Katherine NT where traditional indigenous art is beautiful and inspirational.

It also inspired me to start my own. I love the eclectic nature of your blog. I love the craftiness, it gives me the sense of "I can do that!" and got me started on crochet and back to sewing. I also love that you are about Melbourne, I like the music and I just like seeing what is interesting you at the moment. I live in Coburg. By the way, I love your selection of books. I have got You Sew Girl in my wish list. I would love to win it!

  176. Hello Pip! I read your blog to get lots of crafty ideas, as after much procrastinating, I bought myself my very first sewing machine this year. I am a complete novice, but my helpful mum bought me your two books for Xmas to help nudge me along, and I've been reading your blog ever since. I also like the reassurance I get from reading that lots of you very experience crafty types also have loads of unfinished and not-always-perfect projects - my wonky works don't seem quite so bad! Oh, and I live in Oakleigh, Victoria.

  177. I'm only new to your blog, but I'm already a fan! I do community work with children and teenagers - I found your blog to be a great resource and source of inspiration! I'm a Melbourne girl. Thank you, and keep up the excellent work!

  178. Hello Pip. I am Anna. Nice to meet you.
My lovely Mum bought me a copy of Meet me at Mikes for my birthday and I've been reading your blog ever since. I like that even when you are having a bad day you still sound like you are having a good day. I think you must smile alot. I like it even more that you write like you talk (or how I imagine you talk). Not too much editing, just well...normal. You make me smile alot. Oh, and I live in the beautiful Barossa Valley.

  179. Dear Pip,
I have been visiting your blog for over two years now. I like it because it is funky, bright, chirpy, cosy, honest and well-written. You like many of the same things that I do. We seem to enjoy strolling down the same paths through a vintage, nostalgic forest. I remember the first time I found you I was so surprised to find such a kindred spirit. I had no idea that somebody else loved nostalgia, whimsy, op-shops, Women's Weekly cookbooks and spunky shoes as much as I do.
Since that first meeting, I have discovered many other inspiring blogs. But there is only one Pip and I shall always seek you out in the forest from my part of the woods known as Sydney because kindred spirits need to keep holding hands in case they get lost. xx

  182. Hi Pip,

I read your blog to see what you are up to, get a slightly different view of the world and for inspiration. Various posts remind me things I've forgotten (books I've loved and haven't read for a while, AWW recipe cards) and provide links to new and interesting things and peeps. I live in Melbourne and have been reading your blog since meeting you at Brown Owls three years ago. I really appreciated the Brown Owls meetings as they got me through a period where I couldn't play sport following surgery and crafty diversions kept me going while I recovered.

  184. Hi Pip. Did you know that I didn't even know about blogs until I read about you in Notebook: magazine?! You seemed so fun and bursting with creativity, I looked you up. That was over a year ago. Yours being the first blog I followed and still love. Thanks for teaching me how to crochet :-) I currently live in Port Stephens NSW but in two week's time my little family and I will be migrating north to Hervey Bay Qld (shh, I haven't announced it on my blog yet- oops). I really really hope the heat doesn't deter me from crocheting and knitting. But I am looking forward to learning more sewing. Your blog inspired me to pick up the needles, hook and machine, not to mention all the recipes I have bookmarked and slowly getting through. Thanks a bunch.

  185. I don't remember how I stumbled upon your blog, I think it was about two years ago, but once I found it there was no going back! You offer such a lovely collection of inspiration that evokes the creative artist in me! I live in a little bush town called Otford. Its a cosy little hideaway where I am free to be my creative self.

  186. Why I tune in and how long...

I attended a course (I think about 2 years ago) run by one of your friends who told me about your blog. I already knew about Meet Me at Mikes, but never knew about your lovely little scribblings up until that point. At first I started reading for a crafty fix and inspiration but over time it has evolved into so much more than that. When an email hits my inbox or I see a new post pop up in my Google reader, I am irrevocably happy. Reading your blog reminds me of all the joys in life and happy days.

  195. Hello there, Pip!
I read your blog because it's lovely and inspiring, but also because it's friendly. I always feel welcome here, which I like very much.

I have been reading your blog since a bit after your first book was released. I spied it on my friend's coffee table and loved it so I googled "meet me at mikes" when I got home and found your blog. I've been following along ever since.

Oh, and I live in Adelaide.

Thanks for doing this giveaway, Pip. It's super nice of you.

I like your honesty. I like your blogship (yeah, okay, I made that word up - it's supposed to be blog friendship mashed up).

I live in Parkville - snugged up next to Royal Park. It's lovely there!

I'm pretty sure I started your blog not that long after I starting working at CAE. Sooo, sometime in December 2006?!

  198. Hi hi Pip. I live in Baranduda with my husband and four kids. Its up near the Murray River. I read your blog to escape to a colourful lovely place in between my usual mummy duties. Sometimes my big boys, the 4 and 2 year olds, look at the pictures too. They really like Ari and think he does cool stuff in the city. I am not sure how long I have been reading. It feels like ever since I moved here from Melbs about 5 years ago, perhaps your blog isn't quite that old yet? I remember you celebrating an anniversary recently but my memory is a bit fuzzy since all these kids blessed my life!

  199. Hello Pip :)

I found your blog through a friend of mine who had your first book. I subsequently bought the book and subscribed to your blog - that was about 2 years ago. I love your blog as it has the right amount of crafty stuff mixed with cooking, home decorating, books and general life. I mostly love the crafty stuff and the whole retro-vintage feel of it. I also love to go on the amazing maze journey through your links and find other amazing sites. Especially love Pinterest!

I live in Townsville, North Qld.

I'd love all three of these books. Probably will end up buying them at some stage so winning them would be great to my finances! The last book I bought that was recommended by you was "A Well Kept House is the Sign of a Misspent Life" - love it!!

  200. Hello,
I must admit I'm reasonably new to the bloggyland but I went searching for your writing after Women of Letters as I enjoyed the patchwork nostalgia of your letter it was so heartfelt. I now get your blog emailed to me because I've just moved into a new home in Melbourne and am feeling very domesticated now so I am craving cooking and craft ideas your blog is ideal with the feeling of discovery and homelyness.
