Are you on Pinterest? You should TOTALLY follow me! I am pinning up a storm over there!
xx Pip

I've been resisting pinterest as will get so lost in it... (lost in a good way of course)
ReplyDeleteSome folks around here are getting totally freaked out by the copyright clauses in the pinterest contract. What do you reckon Pip is Pinterest safe and sound and A o.k? I love this little guy and do hope so!
ReplyDeleteI'd like to explore Pinterest Pip, how do i get an invite?

Yep Pinterest is so gorgeous and useful in so many ways, but the small print in their terms is really worth checking out - if I understand correctly, you are personally liable for any legal costs/penalties if original photographer has not given permission to pin (which is separate from crediting), and wants to persue breach of copyright- including Pinterest's costs. So unlikely I know but still, Yikes.
ReplyDeleteThat soup looks so delish!
Oh yes! It's very interesting, the whole Pinterest copyright issue. I guess it's basically Pinterest covering themselves legally whilst still building an amazingly busy site (without any issues about complying with copyright themselves?) Kinda weird that the user is bearing the brunt of liability? Or something?
ReplyDeleteI am not a lawyer, and I DO like Pinterest, as long as images are credited correctly. The internet is BUILT on this kind of image sharing (and crediting!), that's a huge part of where blogging comes from.
I wonder if Blogger had similar concerns about people blogging other's images? It would make sense if they did, I suppose!
Anyhoo! I like using Pinterest, because it's a form of Micro Blogging for me. I like to aggregate content (as they say in profesh blogger-land!) and Pinterest is a great way to do that!
I was just thinking of something else. Do you know what I don't like about Pinterest? That it's becoming a case of 'Did you see such and such on Pinterest?' rather than people referring to whichever artist, designer, crafter, whoever was actually responsible for an image. It's become a generic way of crediting images.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Flickr, in that regard... because it combines source & image in a more unified way. Pinterest doesn't really care about the source so much. For instance you can Pin from Google search results, Tumblr, Google Reader etc. Those sources shouldn't be allowed. The source should 'stick' to the Pin throughout its Pinterest life, in my opinion.
So many gorgeous ideas here, the bedroom with the wall dioramas, the clocks and books, and the red nursery! Those are just my favourites - I love the other ideas too! xx
ReplyDeleteHi Pip
ReplyDeleteIam addicted to Pinterest and after working in the arts, I am very concious of crediting works. The funnies are the hardest to seek the credits for, yet probably the most popular!. I love this idea (youpost - after all a big purpose of the web is promotionis it not?). I do find Tumblr easier to identify the original source ofthe images without too much work but I generally look on there for Art images. I love this post and Love your work by the way!xxx
I love Pinterest and have pinned some of the same as you above. I have had had more than one person say to me I have been looking for your map cushions for ages because I saw them on pinterest but they weren't linked properly- so if it is happening to me... I don't think you should be able to pin from google images but yes it is all very confusing, I try to pin from the artist so I do pin a lot directly from etsy rather than from other blogs... unless they are the orginal source- it is hard. I don't want to do to others what happens to me!!
